Subaru 1998 OBD program?

I have a subaru legacy 1998 2.5gx which a newly bought a subaru 9pin to 16pin cable so i could connect my OBD reader to the car. But what kind of program do i need to read a subaru 1998? with my standard program scan xl i cannot connect to the ecu??


Anyone knows any good program for subaru who i can use?

Then i hook it up to my elm327 obd reader but with scan xl i cant access the car...


I will try some other programs today..

Scan Master elm program should work perfect with you vehicle. But I think that your problem is somewhere else such as on your obd2 plug do you have 12 volts, ground and K-line? If any of those 3 are missing you wont be able to scan your vehicle. Do you know how to check for these 3?

No luck today either wonder if its something wrong with the 9pin to 16pin china cable or my china elm327, but it works on my volvo 1998 same year as my subaru..


I made a video today i noticed when i turned on the key to possition 2 it seems like the check engine light blink two long blink and two fast blinks,,, can you by this blinks read somewhere on the net what code i could be?

EDIT: i connected two black cables under the stearing rack.. it seems if i google on these cables that i will set the car into test mode and then the cel light will blink and you can count it from the blinking, and see what kind of problem it is..

Could someone who watches the video maybe see what kind of problem i might have .

I am sure that the problem you have is, as I said in my previous post, that you either dont have 12 volts to your cable, or you dont have earth to your cable or you dont have K-Line to your cable. I can help you solve this problem but need to know how handy you are with a test light and are you able to locate the ecu in your scooby? If the answer is yes then let us know and I will guid you through the steps you must take to get your cable working with your scooby.
