just remove the lid and check the sim card.
    if it's ferrari then it's a clone.

$1000 is around ?640 at todays rate, so it could be genuine.
if it is , you got a good deal.

not so good if its clone.

Sorry to bump an age old thread, but I'm thinking of buying a second-hand DM8000 and are trying to determine if it is original or a clone.
It seems that one way to determine if it is a clone is whether it has a "Ferrari" sim.
Is there any way to determine if what sim it has without opening it up?
What sim should an original box have?
    Any other pointers greatly appreciated.

PS: If any one wonders why I am considering buying a DM8000, it is because I want a twin sat receiver which has a built-in DVD and HDD.

Just boot the box and watch the LCD/OLED in front, to see what it shows, if it shows an SSL like SSL87F or SSL88F, a Ferrari Logo, it's Ferrari, if it's shows the SSL number without a F at the end, then it's an original.
