hi guys got a vu+duo working ok but slow when changing channels. so my question is if i flash the box with new image will i loose all my recordings on the harddrive when i initilise it again tx

If you initialise the drive then yes you will lose all your recordings, if you just flash it and leave the HDD alone then no.
