    Default mapping

    hi I want to start to learn how to map diesel cars and was just wondering what is the best program to learn on how to alter the maps and whats the best for reading and writing the ecus

    If you have a spare 20 grand to buy a dyno & another 5 grand to buy an diesel exhaust gas analyser then go for it, if not I would leave well alone. The manufactures spend a lot of time and money getting these engines mapped for all round drivability, from cold starts, maybe -10 deg's, depending on where you live to hot starts, engine at 90 deg's or more, then there's acceleration enrichment, timing advance, boost pressure + a whole lot more, you can kill a turbo charged engine very quickly if the settings are not correct. The last thing you need is to re-map say a Golf 2.0 Tdi & then it comes back to you in 2 days, 10 days, 3 weeks with melted pistons

    i know what ye are saying but dont you have to start someware i was just looking for advise on decent software for editing and a decent reader writer its not like im just going to just going to start editing maps and flashing them to new cars

    Ok, tell me the basics of what makes the modern diesel engine tick? And what is the Ecu 'thinking'?
    You can't know how to mod it if you don't know how it should work.

    The tick will be ~~~~ed tappets.

    The ECU will be thinking:

    On Wednesday morning when the owner is going to try and start the car Im not going to let it start, Im going to wait until the battery is nearly flat then Ill let the engine start, Im going to let the owner use the car till Tuesday with no problems at all, on Tuesday morning Im not going to let the engine start again at all, Im going to wait for the owner to call the mechanic and when the mechanic comes and tries to start the engine Im going to let the engine fire up straight away and keep doing so until the mechanic ~~~~s off, then when the owner gets in the car, again Im not going to let the engine start, Im going to wait again for the mechanic but this time not let the engine start for the mechanic, then when he plugs what ever his going to plug into it, Im not going to communicate with it, then when he get it back to he's workshop Im going to let the engine start, Im just going to keep on doing this just to piss everyone off
