My other half has has been given a HTC Desire locked to Orange,
can it be unlocked with a code, or does it need to be plugged into some hardware,
any advice from someone in the know wanted please.

As already posted, it's cheaper on ebay.
But if you get it unlocked via the xtc clip it will make updating the software to generic rather than network release a lot easier.Canker
