Default Read and Clear fault codes, Opel Astra. Software?

    Hi

My friend has a Opel Astra 2003 with the Engine light lit.
I own a ODB2 cable etc for my Volvo.

Is there any software that works with a generic OBD2 cable that can read & clear fault codes on a Opel Astra 2003?

    Regards,

If it's a petrol any generic EOBD/OBD2 scanner will do.
If it's a diesel, nothing works. You would need Op-com then.

What do you use for the Volvo?

    Yes, it's a petrol car
Opel doesn't have "Opel specific" codes like Volvo?

For the older Volvo V70 I'm using an old version of VOL-FCR.
    And for the V50 I use DICE/VIDA.

Sure, Opel does have specific Opel-codes, like each and every manufacturer has. All P1xxx codes are manufacturer specific. But you asked how to read with a generic OBD2 cable.

Although I would not describe the VOL-FCR interface as Generic OBD2. I doubt if any generic scanner will work with that.

I think better to use a multiplexed tool like cheap OP-COM interface and the related soft.

I think you have simple KKL interface so you can use AB-COM or Op COM demo version (search the forum or the web for this SW)

    Hi

    Thanks for answer.
Tried my OBD2 cable and tried many applications like Op Com, Vag Commander and Scan Tech OBD2 Generic or something and OP Tech2. None of them could establish a connection.

Yes, I think it's a KKL cable and when searching for this it's said that AB-COM and OP Tech2 should work but can't find AB-COM anywhere at all.
Could it be that the PIN's in the cable connector are in the wrong place for Opel cars and need other cable?

AB-Com is an illegal copy from a very old Op-com version.

Why don't you try the demo for Op-com?

Thanks! It says on that page that says it should work with my cable (if I understand it all correctly).
Luckly me, I do have both USB and Serial OBD2 cable to try with.
The Demo does not work with CAN-BUS. Is Opel Astra 2003 CAN-BUS or non CAN-BUS?
Will get back tomorrow on how it goes.

If I thought the Astra in 2003 needed Canbus, I would not have suggested the demo.
The car does have a Canbus, but it is not yet used for diagnostics.

    Hi

    Thanks for all your help.
That demo worked perfectly, have now read and cleared the fault codes.
    P0400 Problem with EGR.
Now we need to find out how to find it, remove it and try cleaning it...
