Default Windows\System32\Config\System is missing or corrupt

Hi thanks for the password. I'm on my next step. I need a boot cd to get to the recovery console. I have tried several but they didn't work. I dont have the original operating system discs. XP Pro. Thought I could just follow this from the Microsoft site. Hope you don't mind helping a newbie

Thanks for viewing my post I see there must not be a solution for this issue. I have talked to my daughter about the importance of keeping track of the operating system disks lo. My plan now is to remove the hard drive and get a USB hard drive enclosure. If there is anything else you can suggest please let me know. Thanks again. Newbie Shirley

Get the HIREN'S boot cd, you can download it from here or from the internet, there are utilities on it to recover the os. I had a drive with windows xp on it that would not boot, Booting from the hirens cd I was able to repair the windows install on the drive and all the files etc were intact.
The version of hirens I used was 14.0
