Default Fraudulent transaction on debit card

    Hi

just checked my bank account online and found a transaction for ?168.99 to a company called boohoo.com that I know nothing about, contacted the bank they've stopped my card. Does anyone know what the procedure now, the bank said they will investigate it's worrying how they got hold of my information, I'm always really careful when it comes to using my card online but obviously have got it from somewhere.

    TIA

boohoo.com never heard of that name before?..

Looks like 1 of those sleepless nights, if it was a credit card you need not worry but as you said a debit card you will just have to cross your fingers mate.

Ask them to !chargeback! the transaction for you.

They should send you a proforma to complete and refund the transaction back to your account.

They then advise the company that they have done this and it is up to them to prove otherwise etc

Open a dispute and you should get your money back while they investigate, well I did when something like this happened to me, HSBC just refunded me the money, but if it turns out to be your fault they will take it back.

I used to have a business account debit card and was used exclusively for my business as a courier and only used in a local area and it also did not have an overdraught facility.
Yet it allowed 7 transactions (3 for cash withdrawals) in America and Australia within a day of each other and allowed the account to become ?8000 overdrawn.
I did get the money back after completing several forms and being without the business account for over a month, which made running the business very difficult.
Apparently the card had been cloned in an Esso petrol station that many other people were also scammed at.
Since this happened I only use any cards at cash points or on a paypal account.

Hi there, perhaps you could get the bank to reverse the transaction into DK coffers.

Most of the time the banks just write off the fraudulent balance & give you a refund.

Happened to my debit card a few years ago. Think my details were sold from an Indian call centre. The only other possibility was it was cloned from a cash point.

It took about 5 days to get the refund.

It's important to remember that its your money that the banks payment system has allowed your funds to be debited by fraudulent use/deception. You are required to signature your card, keep it in a private & secure place; not have any record of you pin number. Outside of this the banks system is at fault, most often the bank refund cases of fraud because they have to prove cardholder is at fault! The whole system is flawed, too much third party access to personal information. Banks are employed by us to secure our money for which we have the pleasure of paying charges.
If anyone loses money in this way the bank has to find were the card holder is at fault or refund the money & persue the recipient of the funds to recover their loss!
We live in a society were everyone is made to feel like a sheep & be comfortible with feeling guilty for our failings.
