    Angry Sunray Flashup

    Hi lads.

At the end of my tether!!
Am a very proficient PC user, but the new DM800SE i got died while updating feeds in the factory image!
Should have flashed a new one straight off.
    Clone box BTW.
Installed Sunray Flashup, and the silicon labs
    usb driver ver 5.40.29
Virtual port appears in device manager, but can i connect to the box via the service port???
    Can i hell!!
    Nothing will work.
Have a working box also, and that will not connect either.
Am pulling my hair out :-(
I even tried changing the virtual comm port, rebooting the entire network/pc
Tried win xp, and 7 machines.

When i switch the box on and off, there is no indication that i have done so on the pc.
    Invisible in other words.

    Please, can anybody help??

    Thanks alot..

    R

    Hi mate, try this tut.

To Manualy update firmware on a DM 500HD and the dm800se hd models
via mini-usb service port & Lan Network

    Items required:
    1) A TO B mini-usb male to male [same as a camera USB] & Cat5 Network Cable

    2) if you have a genuine model you can get the latest dreamup 1.3.3.9
you can also find the usb driver here if needed
(USB to UART Bridge Virtual COM Port (VCP) driver)
    from :-dream-multimedia-tv.de/en/downloads website

[if your model is a clone use the sunray version of dreamup]
    **********************************************
    Process:

1)first on the Dream 500HD/dm800se turn off with the switch on
    the rear panel

2)next connect the cable for its part mini-usb port and
"Service" of the Dream 500HD and the USB to a USB port on your PC
and also the Lan Cable from your Router

3)Just plug it in, the PC will detect new hardware connected to the system:

4)The PC will ask the driver for this new component,
Windows 7 will download the driver Automaticly for you
the driver is cp210x usb to uart bridge controller

    5)Open the Windows Device Manager,
and you will see the new hardware installed,
will appear as COM port (even a USB cable).
In the following example, is recognized as the cable into the port COM4.

6)next opened the universal DreamUP 1.3.3.9 [this is the latest version]
and select the update COM port (like any other model of Dreambox).
At this point, we choose the COM port that we appeared in the previous step
(COM4 in this example).and make sure there is a tick in the use network box

7)Press the Connect button the DreamUP universal panel and then go to the
dreambox and power it up to turn on again now the Dream 500HD/800se will
now to start up loading firmware.and once compleated the dreamup loader will
go in to HTTP mode you then click the flash button and find the correct image then on the window click open and it will load on the dreamup and load on your dreambox once fully loaded exit the loader and turn your dreambox off and on again at the rear switch now the image will boot and you can the configure the box

Thanks my friend, but wish it was as easy as that.
Box wont fire up apart from the tuner, and pcb led's
In any case, the system has the drivers installed, and mini usb/lan is no use.

Really need help with this lads pls.

Even on a working box i cant do it.

Something am missing maybe, but i think i got it all covered.

One thing I have noticed, is that when I connect the box after installing drivers, they appear to fail to load, but show perfectly well in device manager.
What is the wierdest, is that the driver software tries to install when i connect the mini USB to the box, regardless of the box power being on, or off.

    How wierd is that!!!!

Any ideas guys would be great please..

    Cheers in advance..

    Thumbs up

Finally got it after all this time messing with Windows.
I have one new bricked box tho.
Shipping main Board back for a warranty replacement.

Lucky I didn't brick the other.

There are some nice images for this box, but a word of warning to all.

Do not be tempted to play with the stock shipped image on Clones, as in updating feed catalogue.

THIS WILL FRY YOUR BOOTLOADER ROM!!!!!

Please take this as good advice.

Why they would ship a Stock Gemini Image is beyond me.

If anyone knows a fix pls let me know, but I doubt there is one, apart from replacing the Rom Chip, of Jtagging!!!

    Hope this help someone here.

    Cheers..

What may be the problem is the soldering on the mini usb service port, I know someone who bought a clone 800 and the mini usb connector was already ratteling around when he opened up the box.

I have a sunray and after a "mishap" (connected usb cable was snagged) my usb port became un-attatched from the main board.

I managed to solder it back on (using mag glasses) but the connections are so tiny that I think it could be a common issue on some boxes, so maybe just 1 bad joint on the service port could have been your problem when trying to rescue it.

I flash mine almost daily, testing self builds and other images, never found an image that has totally bricked mine so far that cannot be rescued by Sunray Flashup.

Also, forget any OE 2.0 (or pli 3.0 based) Images, Plugins etc, at the mo they will not work on a clone.
