Default Use HP Microserver as Satellite receiver

    Hi all,

Isit possible to use a PC running Windows as a satellitte receiver? I know you can purchase DVB-S cards to access FTA channels but I would like to watch all sly TV (sports & Movies!)

If it's possible to setup a pc to do this please can somebody point me in the right direction as to what hardware and software I would require.

    Many thanks
    Robbie

Yes, of course its possible. PC tuners exist for for pretty much every dvb variety including sat, cable & terrestrial.

For the fta channels (and to test your system) the programs that come with the card will usually more than adequate. Once your set up there are many dvb applications that can be set up to do what you require, either by talking to your access card (via a card reader) or by using something called cardshare (you 'share' somebody else's card usually via the internet).

Yep I'd be looking to connect to a card share server.. have you ever used a pc as a satellite receiver? What Software/Plug in Would U Recommend?

I'm moving into a flat with an existing sky setup in the next few weeks and I'm going to buy the vu+ solo for use in the living room but thinking of using the micro server in the bedroom rather then buying 2 boxes? Do u think it would be adequate?

    Thanks again
    Robbie
