    Default Original VCDS vs Clone

    Good day members of DK

Over the past two years I have gone through 4 clone vcds cables. They last a few months and then either lock themselves or show up as unlicensed version after a while and then onlt read power train.

So I am asking myself do I pay R650, ($90) or do I buy the original Ross-Tech vcds for R3500, around ($300)? I would like to hear from the members who have used both the original and clone vcds what you think, does the clone work as good as the original, is it more stable, faster etc?

    Many thanks in advance

It's easy to repair clone vcds, if it is based on Atmega chip. Did you try?

I am in south africa and buying it for $16 as you might sound easy to you but its not. It will take forever to reach me and then the customs and postal service have a go at me for more money and in the mean time my work stands still without the cable.

I have both of them, clone are good for diagnosis but not for special funtions, clone of course dont have support but for the price. Original can do basic setting, SRI, codding, adapting, etc.

Programmer for Atmega is not a big problem. For example, STK200 uses only 6 wires from LPT (but you must have in your PC).

The problem with my current cable is that the software is installed but when I plug the cable into the laptop the cable is dead, light does not come on cable and there is no pop-up on my laptop screen to say interface connected.

Then, first of all, you must check wires from USB to adapter. Good Luck.

Which VID, PID has adapter in device manager? If it's other then VID_0403&PID_FA20, you need to use modified driver and write good dump in FT232 and then in Atmega eeprom.

It would help me because I don't have the right equipment to do that.
