Default World player of the year

Argentine star Messi beats rivals Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta to win his fourth consecutive Ballon d'Or in Zurich.

Meanwhile Luis Suarez has beaten off some tough competition to win the fallon da flor

    THE TRUTH
    The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

True mate I'm a big fan of Messi amazing talent still needs to do it more for his country though, he hasn't even reached his peak.

Even though im a Messi fan I do have a lot of time for Ronaldo he's a fantastic player and all the work he does for charity deserves resect. They both deserve all the plaudits they get two of the best in the world.

Zinedine Zidane Is the best and most talent footballer I and you have ever seen. He won it all. While Messi is great I'll say it again He plays in Spain. The weakest league in the world. About his beating Muller for most goals in a year. Muller never scored a goal from the spot that year. I will say Messi did deserve the award but it's sad no non goal scorer can win

How about the World 11 fifa chose? If the list didn't include Ashley Cole, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm and Petr Cech the list is a joke I could name more but those 4 are as solid as they come.

Maradona took a crap side in Italy and won a cup and a league title then single handed won a World Cup with Argentina when Messi does that will call him the best player ever but for now no one can touch Maradona.

Not alot to choose from this year between Messi and Ronaldo.

got to agree with andy91,maradona was the greatest player i ever saw grace a football field, messi emulates a lot of the traits but does not get near the brilliance of maradona.

and to wolfpacks comment about spain having the weakest league in the world is too laughable a comment to discuss any further.

This thread is about the player of the year not the greatest of all time. Zidane is the greatest of all time in my generation and Maradonna, Pele etc are regarded as the greatest of all time as well and yes once Messi wins a WC or two he can be associated with them but this isn't about the greatest of all time it's who was the best last year and Messi deserved it.

Messi for me, but he,s got to do it with his country, maradona should have been in the Argentina 1978 world cup winning squad as well a lot of fans got very unhappy about that back then

Spain is a two team league. Just look at Ronaldo. Look at how many goals he scored in Spain already compared to his ManU years. Like wise it safe to say Messi would score less if he played in EPL.

point taken, but to state that is the weakest league in the world is pure fodder.

by that token it stands lower than the aussie leagues and even the united states, when either of those two coutries have actually won a world cup i will acknowledge your statement but until then i will just greet it with derision.
