i have a old box 360 white but i am going to buy a new one black with connect can i plug my hard drive into the new box and get all my gamer tags etc???

The transfer is much easier nowadays. No connecting a lead from old to new hard drive.

use a usb stick formatted by the 360 (upto 32gb) and transfer

i done this and works fine no need to buy any more things that you will only use once

if you are only getting a 4gb model you can take your old harddrive out of the caddy and use it in the new one.

other wise just use a usb flash drive and copy everything.
