Default Starting over with my s10.

    Hi all,
I fitted an mk4 dish and bought an s10 about a year ago. It's been decent, but I've always had some glitching and freezing, almost always on sub channels. I realised a couple of months after I fitted the dish (once the season had changed) that a bush in my neighbour's garden may have been causing line-of-sight issues. Anyway, I finally got round to moving the dish this past weekend. However, since moving it I've lost over half my channels, and virtually all the sub channels that are working are glitching and/or regularly freezing. Signal intensity on fta channels is generally 90% and signal quality 50%-70%. However, on the sub channels, though 'intensity' is around 80%-90% 'quality' is between 5%-45%. I've never been able to use the box to record, and the EPG rarely populates, so I'm thinking that tomorrow I'll flash it with the latest f/w and do a new scan. Any pointers on when the 'best' s10 f/w and what I can do to sort this out? It's driving me nuts!! Mnay thanks

your dish was never the problem and youve now moved it to the wrong direction to pull in all channels.. your original problem was caused by a shitty sub.
move your dish back to the original position and get a new sub. we cant help you with that tho

You moved your dish and now cant get as many channels as before....

Changing firmware aint gonna solve nothing, you need to align your dish properly....

I'm not sure that's the issue. I've been with 4 cline suppliers over the past year and encountered the same problems with all. The server I'm on now is private, and a friend who uses it experiences virtually no problems, all of which suggests to me that its a problem at my end.

but it wasnt a dish problem because other channels were fine, so if youre definite its not server related, then its a network issue

Yes, I agree ... However, my non-HD fta channels (ie BBC, ITV, C4, C5) are all 90% intensity and around 60%-70% quality. I guess I must be close.

The firmware update really is to try improve epg and pvr functionality, both of which are utterly bunk atm!

you wont improve either with firmware change.

    i will elaborate.
you say that originally fta channels were fine but subbed channels were crap.. this indicates a line problem in most cases, as you stated that you are certain the line is fine (have you tested it in another box?) then that leaves a network issue with either /or /and / your router, cabling etc

Time to upgrade boxes possibly then!

I haven't tested the line with another box as I only have the one box, but a friend uses the same line and has no problems. In addition, the line is far more stable than commercial lines I have previously used. TBH I wish it was the line. That's simple enough to change!

Given that I'm getting high intensity and quality on most non-HD FTA channels, would you agree that my dish must be more-or-less aligned correctly?
    Many thaks for info!

There should be no 'more or less' about it, if it is aligned correctly, you should have no problems with the FTA channels.

Network problems would be next, if you are confident the line is ok.

Testing with a different box would rule out the box being a problem though, so maybe your friend could pop around with his box ?

So, since I have no problems with the FTA channels, the dish is aligned correctly? No need for me to spend any more time up my ladder freezing my backside off?!

How did you align your dish?

Can you not realign it whilst on a channel with low quality to see if it can be improved.

When I first set up my dish, I was monitoring BBC1 for best signal & quality. It was only when I noticed that channels on certain transponders above 12GHz were pixelating, I realised that it wasnt aligned correctly. If you are going to align your dish using a channel as a monitor, pick one of the weaker ones.

Have you ever had any other kind of receiver connected to that particular dish?

Since you said in your 1st post that things got worse after you moved the dish, it sounds like it is still not aligned correctly. Dont forget that the skew may need tweaking as well.

    Thanks for your message.
I've been trying all morning to align it by using a channel with a weak signal. Best I can get is 80% intensity, 40% quality. BBC and other standard def fta channels remain at 90% and 70% respectively.
Never had another receiver attached to dish.
