WHAT ERROR U GET WHEN PUTED 40168
I can help you but only if you want me to help you
All the questions should start from what car, what year, what engine is what fuel. What are the symptoms of the problem. Only then is what you know, what fault code, live data, what you have done.

Thanks but this car does not have electric steering, so no steering assistance module. If you look at the screen shot, VAS5054a says error_argument_1
and ABS module not responding to login or something like that. With Diagun it just says "login failed" under guided functions with vas login is automatic or under self diagnostic you can enter code manually but it still fails. Could it be a steering wheel module coding issue? It is coded as "8" do you have info relating to coding numbers of this module? Rosstech does not have info
    This Golf is 1J (not 1K) 2002 mk4.

    FIXED!!
Asked other garage for old steering wheel module. Confirmed same part number but fitted original one anyway. Aligned yellow dot etc ....
VAS5054a -> self diagnosis -> Brake Electronics -> Access authorisation -> codingII -> enter 40168 -> "coding successful" , back to diagnostic menu -> basic setting -> 60 -> don't hit activate, just exit again. DONE! Is now off getting alignment

I suspect when the other garage did brakes, the customer drove home and hit a curb, then continued driving with crooked steering wheel. This brought up mechanical fault. They fitted second hand steering wheel module, then had basic setting error. I cannot explain why the procedure would not work with the second hand part but did with the original. Did not need new ECU as VAS5054a instructed. I hope this helps others

No it was exactly the same part number. I did not fit that, the other garage did. But didn't tell me that either until short time ago
My part number was 1J0959654AP, both were the same
