a crossover cable is different to a null modem cable ,and buying a crossover cable is no guarantee you can flash your box . a crossover cable is used for some thing different really.
i love it when a dreambox comes together.
just ask for the cable?

I was having the same issues as yours the first time and thought have bought the wrong cable or dreamup was not compatible with win 7.
What i do for it to work is to start dreamup with the power unplug from the box. Once press connect on dreamup, then i start to plug in the power cable to the box. Maybe you could try this and ensure is a null modem cable.
I am trying to flash my dm500, it says upload completed waiting for acknowledge..... any help with this will be highly appreciated
Thanks mate have tried other at least three versions but no smiles
could it be ur null cable plug lose...?
hi sorry, im new here. does the flashing helps to the recent problems of DB? thanks!!
Is the Dreamup software able to flash the dm900c model?
looking new version of enigma for dm 7020
Hi, thanks for great guide. I've tried using Dreamup but I got stuck right after "loading flasher" or something like that. Dreamup was able to detect my dreambox 500 as recorded in the log box below the program.
It stayed there for bat 20 mins and couldn't proceed. I've tried dreamup ver. 1.2.2, 1.3.3.0 to 1.3.3.3 and .3.3.7 none of them works.
Anyone can help? I got a null cable frm eBay but can't confirm if it's one.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before.
Can I just flash the Dreambox with just a NULL modem cable? Or do I need to connect both the null cable and the network (ethernet) port?
Thanks!
if your laptop / pc has a 9 pin connection you only need a null modem cable to flash the box ,if your laptop / pc does not have the 9 pin connection you need a usb to serial adaptor that connects to the null modem cable .
usb to serial adaptors require you to install a bit of software called a driver in your pc ,in simple terms the driver helps the pc see your box (and vice versa) via the adaptor but in my experience windows vista is just about incompatable with the usb to serial adaptor drivers ,in which case if your box is a dm500 you will need to find a desktop pc (with the 9 pin connection ) to flash your box .
newer boxes such as a dm800 can be flashed via web browser .
