All depend on which dongle you buy the network its connected to and the signal strength of the 3G signal where you are planning to use it but yes it can be done

I am afraid its not just as simple as plugging the dongle into the laptop and then a cable from the laptop into the box you have to make a bridge connection from the laptop to the box

tryed that mate but at this point

Create the bridge on the host machine. Go to "Change adapter settings" on the left pane on the host machine. Two or more connections should show up. Highlight both Local Area Connection and Wireless Network Connection. Right click one of the icons you highlighted and an options menu should come up with only "Bridge Connection". Click it and it should take a second to set up the connection

when both highlighted it does not say bridge connection ?

I've asked our two resident pikeys (Renwich and Satsearching) over on UkCvs to pop in here with some help and advice, as I understand that they've got this sorted out very nicely when they go off caravanning.

    Cheers- AL

I use a T-Mobile wireless pointer mifi device, CS does not however work on the T-Mobile network, so I unlocked the mifi device and have a payg 3 sim in it, to save the complicated setup of ICS between the DM and a laptop I use a vonets wireless bridge this wirelessly connected to the mfi works very nicely, but as stated above the ecm response are dependant on signal quality.

    In summary

    Dm500
    Mifi device
    3 payg sim
    Vonets wireless bridge

You really should go with a Three account, tried all other networks and Three appears to be the best, others have too much latency.

    hi

this is not my work I followed and used with a laptop ( before getting a 3g router)

How to connect dream box using 3g,

    1. Connect your USB dongle to computer and connect to the internet.

    2. goto run menu and type cmd or
accessories Command Prompt / Programs / start

    3. you will get dos command screen

    4. type ipconfig

    5. You will be given two ip settings, you might see on top 192.168.0.1 or some ip range.

    7. Connect your dream box to tv and connect your computer also, if you connect using directly, you should use cross cable to connect your computer.

    8. you should share your network connection, to do that
    network connections / settings

    9. start select your 3G or GPRS connection.

    10. click right mouse button and select properties and select advance tab on the dialog box and on the internet connection sharing tab select allow user to share my internet connection

click ok button and close it

Then go to dreambox on the
communication settings / settings /menu is 192.168.0.1 then select your ip as 192.168.0.2 then Set gateway as your computer ip 192.168.0.1 and name server also same ip rest of the things same.

    Save it and close

Wait till online comes and try to browse channels

the set up I now use is

    dm500 or openbox s9
    tp-link 3g router
vonnets or tenda 300m wireless bridge
a three usb dongle pay as you go

    hope this may help
