Default black screen wii hangs on load from USB HDD

Hey folks. So I've got my Wii soft-modded. It's 4.3 and I have HBC, PriiLoader, MMM, and USB Loader GX installed. I used Wii Backup Manager to put two test ISO files onto a FAT32 formatted 1TB external WD HDD (with mains power) as WBFS (split every 1GB). Everything comes up and looks good but whether I load the USB Loader GX from HBC or from its own installed channel, after the intro comes up with the game logo & music and two buttons [Settings] and [Start] and I launch the games, the screen goes black and the Wii becomes non-responsive.

I've waited several minutes to see if it's just a loading issue to no avail. I've googled the issue and some say play with the settings for the game which I have a little bit but not extensively. Thought I'd check here to see if this is a simple thing someone knows how to fix.

    Here's the syscheck:

I would use WBFS Manager if I were you that doesn't split any ISO files. Do all games do this or just some?

What you need are some newer wads installing.

Now you have the sysCheck.csv file on the root of the SD card from the sysCheck is download ModMii6. 2.6 and run it from Windows. On the main menu type in SU and type in the location of the sysCheck.csv. Its easier to put this on the root of a drive as it saves typo's.

That will download all wads and apps that are missing into a COPY_TO_SD sub folder. Add all files and folders to your SD card and run Homebrew with the SD card inserted.

You need a newer IOS236 so first of run IOS236 Installer from Homebrew and install IOS36 as IOS236. Come back out and run Multi-Mod-Manager and select WAD Manager this will default to the wad folder install all wads in there. Watch for the Installed OK message after each one. If any don't install just try them again.

Now ModMii only installs 2 d2x v8.0 wads so you may as well install all the others. d2x v8.0 final pack

That will remove the Stub on IOS11, IOS20, IOS40 and IOS52.

You can post a new sysCheck afterwards.

Thanks for the response! I had already downloaded and installed the d2x v8 Final wad pack before you responded. But I did as you suggested, downloaded ModMii6.2.6, ran it, installed the 12 WAD files it asked me to and ran some more tests.

I installed 2 games onto the USB drive from their original discs (NBA 2K12 & Lego Star Wars) and they both load from USB. I didn't really test play but I figure the fact that their loading at all is a win.

I am testing with a couple ISO games now.

Well you hadn't installed d2x v8.0 in your first sysCheck I only say what I see but its there now.

Your sysCheck looks ok now so it should play any game if it doesn't then its how you adding the games to the drive or your drive isn't compatible.

You will find there are some games that don't run on the default IOS or they need a difference frequency but LEGO Star Wars - PAL is ok.

I know. I meant to say that after I posted I figure I needed to do that so I went ahead and did it. Your help is still greatly appreciated.

And it does. It now works just fine. I installed a few games onto the HDD from their game discs and they load and play from the HDD just fine.

Interestingly, I also had a couple ISOs I grabbed to use for some games I own but the discs are too scratched up now to play from. When I tried to put them on the drive using WBM from Linux w/ WINE, it seemed to copy them onto the drive and said they copied OK but they would not play. But after I ran WBM from an XP virtual machine and put the games onto the external HDD that way, they now play just fine too.

Lesson here is WBM doesn't work well in WINE even though it acts like it does.

    Thanks again for your help!

With all the USB Loaders you can insert a game disc (I'm told you can do this with burnt disc's thought I haven't tried it) and you can copy the image to your hard drive. On USB Loader GX just click the + button bottom left. It will depend how bad the disc is stratched.

You can click the Thanks button bottom left under each reply thats helped you.
