There should be more consistency from the refs then, some tackles get away with murder and others are shown red. Refs should also come out on camera and put they're hands up when they make mistakes or explain decisions. I remember Durkin use to do that and always got praised for it. It helps clear things up, refs get away with making mistakes they should be punished if its a silly mistake, just like players do when they get red cards.

If that tackle was by a Man Utd player on a City player people would have been screaming RED CARD..

    Lets look at why..

Kompany goes in strong and fast, has both feet raised, although grounded, studs of both boots are raised, he DOES NOT make contact with Nani (unfortunately ) and DOES win the ball cleanly.. So NO RED CARD i hear some cry..

FIFA Laws of the Game: Law 12

"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, side, or behind, using one or both legs with excessive force and endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play"

Serious Foul Play = RED CARD

I've underlined the two parts to show how hard and fast can EASILY be construed as excessive force.

Whether Kompany made contact with the ball or not is completely irrelevant, the laws of the game clearly state excessive force.

If you don't agree with the Laws of the Game then that is hardly the fault of the referee who is there to apply the laws of the game.
Yes but Kompany does not leap or lunge with both feet in the air, he times his challenge to ensure he is sliding with one foot at the ball with no downward motion when he gets there. His studs are pointing away from Nani and he brings his right leg across in a sweeping motion to minimize impact, with his left leg well away from man and ball, ensuring it has no chance of making contact with Nani. A really well executed tackle to my eyes but we can agree to differ. What needs to stamped out is the challenge where a player propels himself with both feet together or close together whereby even contact with the ball is immaterial because he has no control over where his feet and studs will go after contact

It was a soft red card at the end of the day.Kompany is not your "thug" sort of player. He got the ball with his right foot and his left was no where near Nani. I can appreciate that we have the benefit of hindsight and loads of camera angles to watch it over and over again but let the pictures speak for themselves.
Yes, i agree that if a player comes in with both feet in a tackle aiming to take someones leg off, then send them off but this was a poor decision.

Roy Keane used to make those challenges all the time and Man U fans cheered him for it.

Although tackles from behind were formerly illegal, tackles can now be legally made from any direction, so long as contact with the ball is made and the tackle is not excessively dangerous.[4] This explicitly includes "scissoring" (tackling with legs apart, so as to trap the opponent's leg or legs in between), which is likely to be punished with a straight ejection (red card), as it poses a high risk of severe knee injury to the player being tackled. If a tackle is deemed legal, then play continues.

Giggs scissor tackled Aguero from behind with no ball contact.

Anyway...you won. But you took our FA Cup so we'll take your title!

    Game on.

Afternoon all, I am just thinking about our up and coming game on Saturday, I am a little worried!! Will SAF play from the start Giggs and Scholes in mid?? and rest a few as we have games with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all coming up!! The games we have lost are when he has changed the team in these so called easier games!! Which they are not!! I like the fact that Scholes has come back but to be fair really last season he looked a lesser player, I think SAF has give him a contract as he dosen't want to buy in JAN we know this as he really dosen't like buying in JAN, i know he bought berba but that was a one off, I think putting both these to in mid will slow us down even more than we have been this season and i just want him to put our best team possible out in every game, I understand about roation and all but its getting to the point where these older players are making to many big mistakes!! IE Rio, Giggs and Scholes on sunday, whats your thoughts?

I think we should try to keep to a winning team and create a winning mentality throughout the squad before Fergie starts to mess about with different players. We are fortunite to still be in the Europa league, and FA cup, and should use those for experiments.

Agree with that but no experiments in the fourth round FA Cup tie please as i don't fancy getting lock in if he had put out a weaker team, I want to go there and get a good win there is nothing worst than waiting a hour in the away end when you have just lost!!

I think we are getting good players back from injury now, we actually can select people in correct positions. Scholes for me will be used sparingly and to be a good option as teams tire toward the final whistle. Anderson fit is a good option and with carrick behind him and Rooney in front we will have a good spine. I say you will not see a weaker team at the cup tie but the strongest possible and if so a good chance of progress.

Kompany had his appeal turned down but no further match was added.
He will serve 4 matches and it seems a correct decision on the day.

i put a post in your liverpool thread at the weekend, first post in there ever,it was a tongue in cheek remark about anfield getting 30 thousand t shirts printed with your racist fans name and asking that the kop supporters buy one each and wear it before kick off at the next home game.

no offence meant,it was just a joke.it was deemed so funny it got removed immediately,i hate to say this but sgerrard is not always a million miles off the mark when he comments on these things.

    i miss him

that was a joke as well
