    Default What image?

Hi Guys thinking of getting a Skybox 6000HD and been doing some reading on it. Some say its a VU+ clone and needs a clone image others say you can load on the openvix image as is. Not sure if the image is a vu+solo or VU+uno. I like the vix image as I have t technomate TM 2T OE and its the dogs. Just need clarification on what image to flash to this skybox.

    Thanks Guys

Its an E2 based Linux machine and as you correctly stated the hardware inside is a cloned Vu Solo so any image that goes on the Vu solo will flash on the Openbox 6000HD including openvix

I assume its over usb but is there summat I have to watch out for as theres no front led panel. Do I just download the openvix image for vu+ solo and stick it on a usb then pop it in a slot and reboot? Any info appreciated guys. Cheers

Thanks digicon but when I look for the vu+solo flash process I get this....
Copy the following USB Image files from the ZIP/RAR achive to the vuplus/solo folder on your PEN Drive.

    boot_cfe_auto.jffs2
    kernel_cfe_auto.bin
    root_cfe_auto.jffs2

    Power Off Solo
Insert USB Pen Drive in the front USB socket.
    Power on Solo

The display window will show an orange/red LED constantly lit.
This means it's reading the data from the USB Pen into the buffer.

    Then...

The display window will show the orange/red LED flashing.
This means it's now flashing the data to the receiver.

Wait until the LED changes to a Green Flashing LED.

When Green LED is flashing you can now safely power off the receiver and remove the USB PenDrive.

Now Power on and wait for the receiver to boot.

I have one blue light on the openbox and no display so what do I look for on this box?

    Again cheers

Well Guys looks like I ****ed it. I went ahead and flashed it using the vu + instructions above with this image... openvix 3.0.722 from here....
    OpenViX Downloads

    This is what I done...
1...unzipped the image and formatted a usb stick fat32

    2...put the image on it folder structure was vuplus\solo with 5 files .... imageversion, kernel_cfe_auto.bin, reboot.update, root_cfe_auto.jffs2, splash_cfe_auto.bin

3... Powered off box and put the usb stick in the front USB (two usb port on left side I used the one nearest front.)

    4... Powered on box

This is what happened in the light on the front of the box...

1... light turned a mixture of blue and red for a minute or two.

2... Light turned Red for a minute or two

3... light turned blue flashing and stayed like that. left it over an hour and rebooted box Nada nothing so I must have bo**oxed it by either using a wrong image or by not following the right steps.

I will write a tut for this if and when I get it back. It had open PLI on it when delivered

Any help appreciated. Dont need spoon feeding been around technomate dreamboxes and know how to flash those just need to know what I did wrong here. If I have bricked it I do see an RS232 port on the back so is there an unbrick process

    Cheers guys

You can use the RS232 method with all the official software from the Vu+ site with an official .nfi image, I have a feeling that if you flashed the Latest Vix image you may have forgot to flash the Bootloader first you could try flashing the bootloader first via USB and then flashing the image straight after before you try the RS232 method

You flashed it correctly see here: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...ml#post1970618

Again thanks Digicon, I thought I read that as a clone you needed a clone image. I am assuming that the attachment is the bootloader? too small for an image. I will try what you suggested and get back. Cant do it till this afternoon. Again thanks for your help. I nwill write a tut when done as I am sure there will be a few plebs like me need guidance

OK Guys/Digicon I tried to flash bootloader first and then this image straight after....Vuplus-image-vusolo-20130822181134-USB from the vu+ wesite bootloader seemed to go on ok lights went from blue to red and very quickly back to blue flashing. I then switched off box removed the bootloader file and inserted the image file and switched on. light went red then out that was it?? This image is a genuine vu+ do I need an openvix? as I tried that and it did the same.

So downloaded the NFI file and connected box via null modem to Dreamup ( I am assuming this is the software to use to flash over rs232) set port and turned on box nothing? is there different software to use.

Am in a hole now so looking for advice

    Cheers guys

Update... OK found the vu+ utility for flashing box so ignore dreamup. downloaded it and set port and pointed to the nfi image and it fails at step 5. See image belowerror.JPG

Sorry above any thoughts cheers guys

Looks like I have bricked it I have tried the official nfi file and using the efi bootloader first then both official vu+solo vix and openvix. Is there any recovery for this? as soon as I put or tried to put official software on I cant do anything. Box is only 2 days old. Looks like I saw that tutorial too late as I could have flashed it from inside openpli by the looks of it

    Anyone help please

Have you tried flashing an older image onto the box first something like Blackhole 1.7.2 also when using the Vu Utility you have to have Ethernet connected as well

Flash it with an older version/build of open vix 3.0, I had the same problem where it wouldn't boot up with the latest builds such as 722 when I updated it. Best best is to try an old version such as 702 for example which I am currently using.
Flash it with a USB, by firstly making sure the box is off, insert the USB, turn on the box, let it do its thing, once a blue light starts flashing it means the process is done. Turn off the box from the back, remove USB and you should be good to go

Hi digcon firstly thanks for your continued support and for eveybody elses input. Much appreciated. I tried an earlier version of open pli nfi image . I never had the ethernet connected when I did this so maybe the reason why it fails is at step 5 is that. I know the ip addy when it first arrived will that be the same or do I just nee the ethernet cable in it and the ip address is not essential, just the cable. Since loading the bootloader I cant do anything with usb when I try to flash an image that way the light just goes red then turns off and thats it. I feel the only recovery is via the rs232 path but will try any suggestions that you good people throw at me.

Have to go out for an hour but will try your suggestions on arrival and feed back to you all. Again thanks guys

OK guys update so far... well I did another flash using vu+flashtool with thge ethernet cable in and it flashed ok with the vu +original image but would not boot. I then flashed it via usb with openvix 723 and it seemed to flash ok but again would not boot. Tried to flash 702 but it just turned on the red light and then went off. Flashed the vu+image again and tried to flash 702 still no joy. I then flashed openpli 2.1 beta nfi with the vu+tool and it worked so I have it back with an openpli image WooooHooo. just need to get a vix image on there now. going to follow the tut posted by digicon earlier and do it via the menu. god steep learning curve here .
