    Default Take control of your system

    The following run command alows you to take control of your PC, which even as an administrator you do not have full control of.

    1. Hit Start -> Run

    2. Type ?at XX:XX /interactive taskmgr? in the box (without the quotes) where XX:XX is the time one minute ahead of the clock, but in military time. So lets say that it is 11:02 pm. You would type 11:03. and hit OK.

    3. You will notice command window open briefly and then close. Do not be alarmed.

    4. When 11:03 comes around the task manager will open. What is different? It is now being run by the system. Take a look at the Processes in Task Manager and you will see that taskmgr.exe = SYSTEM

    5. In Task Manager/ Processes tab select the explorer.exe process, currently running as whatever you have called yourself in your account, and click End Process.

    6. In Task Manager/Applications Tab ? Select New Task and in the box type explorer.exe

    7. Select Switch to

    8. You will notice that your windows session will start loading up again (does not close down so again do not be alarmed)

    9. Once it does, look at the user who is logged in at the start menu ?SYSTEM? look at explorer.exe in the task manager the username is now ?SYSTEM?

    10. Note if you do other stuff here the PC will go through the process of install general stuff such as Windows Live etc as this is in effect a new account but with nothing of you usual settings in it.

    11. Finally when you log off or restart the PC you will revert to the old account ?YOU? or whatever your account is named.

    We live and learn because ?now? and only ?now? do ?You/SYSTEM? have full control of the computer and XP to do whatever needs to be done.
