Default Skylanders Swap Force Portal not working

Hi, I have a softmodded wii (4.3E firmware) and having problems with Skylanders swap force. No matter what I try, it does not recognise the portal. I have selected ios223 and then the portal keeps blinking, but still no luck. I am using Wii flow and USB loader GX, but both have the same issue with the portal. Any suggestions?

You only get the USB portal if you buy the game not download it and try to fix it.

You could post a sysCheck19 report as instructed in that link to see if you have the correct IOS's installed.

Well you didn't post a sysCheck19 report so I don't know what you've installed on your system.

Not sure if it is better to hijack this thread or start a new one, but I am having approximately the same problem. Maybe we can dig a little deeper in to the issue in case anyone else is having trouble too.

I have a Wii with 4.3U. I used the letterbomb softmod and have pretty much everything working the way I want it to. Using USB Loader GX with an 80 gb FAT32 drive.

When I put in the game disk for Skylander's Swap Force I am prompted to install a Wii system update, which includes a warning saying "If your Wii console includes unauthorized modifications, this update may detect and remove unauthorized content causing immediate or delayed inoperability of your console." Nice of them to warn us.

Then I started up USB Loader GX and proceeded to install Swap Force from the disk on to the hard drive. Everything seems to be working fine right up to the point where the game attempts to locate the portal. It is at this point where I get the error "PORTAL DISCONNECTED" and it asks me to plug the portal back in.

I am using the new Swap Force portal that came with the game, and this version has a USB cable attached to it (vs. the USB dongle from previous versions of the game.) My USB hard drive is plugged in to the first USB port on the Wii (closest to the edge) and the portal is plugged in to the second. When I first start up my Wii before I run USB Loader GX, my portal lights up leading me to believe it is working. Once I start USB Loader GX, and from that point forward, the portal stays off.

My first guess is that I am using an ios that isn't loading drivers compatible with the USB portal so that is where I am going to start my troubleshooting. I'll post any updates if I find any, otherwise feel free to jump in if anyone else has already figured this one out. Thanks much.

Alright, kids finally broke me down wanting to play so I went ahead with the Wii update. The game now loads from the disk and detects the portal just fine. I was happy to see that Homebrew was still installed so I ran a new syscheck. I can't see that anything was changed...

I went back to check Mario Kart using USB Loader GX and it's crashing the Wii when I try and launch it. I hadn't tested it since I installed Hermes 5.1, so I wonder if that in fact is the problem.

Okay... I removed 202, 222, 223, and 224. Mario Kart now launches from USB Loader GX. Here is the syscheck:

I decided to try and install some new ios's using Hermes 5.1 installer. I followed these instructions (Install Hermes cIOS 202,222,223,224) and my new syscheck is below.

(UPDATE: Installing these 4 ios's actually caused all of my backup games to crash my Wii, so I ultimately uninstalled them.)

Now with 202, 222, 223, and 224 installed, the portal stays lit when I launch USB Loader GX, but when I attempt to launch Swap Force from the HDD my Wii just reboots. Just for kicks I launched Loader GX and put the Swap Force disk in and tried to launch the game as a mounted disk. The game did load, and the portal stayed lit, but the game still didn't detect that the portal was plugged in.

Alright, probably the last post for a little bit. After I uninstalled the Hermes 5.1 os's I found that Swap Force wanted to do another update (no idea why.) Since the last update seemed to go fine I figured I'd do it again. Same warning message, etc. After the update Swap Force worked fine and all of the USB Loader GX games seem to be fine too.

So for some reason Swap Force is able to determine when I make a change to the ios's, but it doesn't seem to make any visible changes when it applies its update. Definitely curious.

I'd like to find an ios that works with Swap Force and the portal without causing all of the games to crash my Wii, but for now everything seems to be working. The kids just better not scratch this disk like they've done to all the rest!

Here is the syscheck after the final Swap Force update. Still can't see any changes.

As you may have read on here thats a typical sysCheck of a Wii thats only been softmodded as you have originally showed 16 IOS's that are Stub. You do have IOS36 and IOS236 that's all but you need to reduce that 16 down to 4 or 5.

Download ModMii6.3.0 and run it from Windows. Use the SU option from the main menu and find the location of the sysCheck.csv from the sysCheck which is on the root of the SD card. That will download all missing wads and apps to COPY_TO_SD sub folder just add all files and folders to the SD card.

ModMii only installed 2 d2x v8.0 wads download d2x v8 Final wad pack and install all 7 wads when you install the other wads.

Put the SD card back in the Wii and run Homebrew. You already have IOS236 but it won't hurt to install it again. Run IOS236 Installer v5 Mod first before you install any other wads. Install all wads with Multi Mod Manager (MMM) should be the first app listed select it and load it.

Watch for the Installed OK message after each one. If any don't say that message make a note of the wad name and back out. Scroll down to the wad that didn't install and press the + button the put a green + next to it then press 'A' to see that wads name listed then press 'A' to install again.

If you have to update to 4.3 then the Shopping Channel may work. If it doesn't without doing another system update don't bother just install my RVL-Shopping-21

Do another sysCheck to make sure everything installed correctly and post that.

Cool, this advice still works in 2021. Some pointers for other latecomers. Follow Keithuks advice closely, it's easy to overlook crucial steps. For me, I thought Modmii would copy the relevant files to the SD card, but you have to do it manually. The links don't work anymore and MMM and the IOS236 Installer are not included.

    d2x v8 Final wad pack: http://www.mediafire.com/file/x4mf58...final.rar/file
    Multi Mod Manager: https://gbatemp.net/download/multi-m....13015/history
    ModMii: above link still good.
    IOS236 Installer: https://sites.google.com/site/comple...attredirects=0

I finally got Skylanders Swap Force working, on 4.3E, after installing the Final Wad pack. I run the game with USB Loader GX on cIOS 247 or 248. With cIOS 222 or 223 the portal lights up but the screen stays black.

    Good luck!

    Brilliant!

When I originally used Modmii I completely missed the step of going in to the MMM WAD Manager to install all of the IOS's. I had been installing all of the IOS's manually (using d2x cIOS installer app from the homebrew channel, for example.) There is definitely way too much out of date information out there.

My SD card has gotten pretty cluttered from all of the work I've been attempting so far, but I followed the instructions from the ModMii Guide and installed just the WAD's it had listed:

    1. Your unique list of WADs to install are as follows:
      • IOS11v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • IOS20v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • IOS30v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • IOS40v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • IOS50v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • IOS52v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • IOS60v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • IOS70v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • IOS80v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP])
      • cIOS202[60]-v5.1R
      • cIOS222[38]-v4
      • cIOS223[37-38]-v4
      • cIOS224[57]-v5.1R
      • cIOS249[56]-d2x-v8-final
      • cIOS250[57]-d2x-v8-final
      • IOS36-64-v3608

I believe everything is now working properly. I tested Mario Kart and Swap Force from the USB Loader GX and they both are loading correctly. Swap Force is also finding the portal.

Thank you very much for your help. I was definitely making this more complicated then I needed to. One thing to note, I kept using the GUI version of ModMii (ModMiiSkin.exe) which does not appear to have the SU option. When I switched to the command line version everything made much more sense.

This one should look much better:

I was having a similar issue. I followed the above info and we aren't experiencing the same issues as before where the portal wouldn't be recognized or the game would freeze at certin points entirely. Unfortunately, going through the first level, he got to a place where you have to kill all of the enemies for a gate to open. The final enemy froze and the gate won't open. You can still run around and everything else iw normal, you just can't prgress in the level.
I am using USBLoaderGX to manage the games. I have it default to 223 in the loader. This made the portal work but I am still having issues. Is this how I should have it configured?

I'm including a copy of my log just in case it's helpful. I really need to get this fixed. Thanks in advance!
