    Default Software fault

    Hi all,

    newbie alert!

family member of mine has a vu+ uno. He bought it as a plug and play and it has worked fine for over a year until today.

box has crashed and error message states "software problem logfile\tmp\enigma2 crash.log"

im assuming that that the image file has somehow become corrupt?

is there any quick fixes or is a full new install job?

the remote control isn't even responding

    any help would be great

    thanks in advance

does the box start again if you turn it off and on
again with the switch on the rear panel, if yes and
the remote still does'nt work, have you tried other batteries? if yes and you know the batteries are ok point the remote at the box and press and hold button 2 and 7 at the same time until the top left button flashes red and stays red then press the info button until it also flashes the button then type via the remote 0 0 0 2 and then click>ok
and then see if the remote works, i say this because if you got the box plug and play the remote could have been set on anouther number the default for the uno is 2

    Hi Benny,

have turned the box on and off, via the switch and the power cable. The box starts again, it starts the image etc and then the error screen comes up with the software problem fault listed above. It's at this point when I'm trying to press menu etc on the remote to get into the settings and nothing works. Batteries are fine as when I'm pressing the buttons the red light is coming on.

ill try what you have said with the remote and get back to you

    cheers

i never asked is this box a original or a clone?
and if the remote code doesn't help you could flash the official loading the nfi firmware via the 9 pin com port on the rear of the box, with a null modem cable to clear the box back to as it came from the factory, and when it fires up again you can flash a new image with a usb stick

The box is original. Yeah was just thinking that will have to flash new image.

just been reading all the idiots guides before I start . Like to do a bit research before I break his box for good!

its got openvix on now but been reading about black hole. What you reckon? Does it matter? They seem to do the same thing or am I missing something?

im also assuming that as the current image has failed that this is the reason that the remote is non responsive.

    thanks for your help

i think he will need to bite the bullet and just flash
a new image, as his remote wont work and he cant get
in to the menu's to save his cnf file from the etc folder
or his chn list ,long/lat settings etc: i just hope you have
kept copies of the files in a folder on your computer as a
standby for when things go wrong

    Hi all

many thanks for all your input. The box is actually my dads and he doesn't even know how to switch a laptop on so you can imagine the pickle I'm in! I've got a skybox f5 myself so I do understand the theory behind what I have to do with his box.

the most important thing he has got written down on piece of paper believe it or not! Ha ha. As for channel lists etc then am afraid it's not backed up.

yeah Benny you are correct. The box is just dead, can't get in at all the retrieve any settings, config etc. it's a clean install. Going to have a go today after work, wish me luck!

couple of other questions chaps, black hole or openvix? Can you make a full backup of everything? Image, lists, good stuff?.

    cheers

you can do a full backup, to use to re flash the box
if you have a problem,i just keep a folder on my computer
with chn list, cams, cccam cnf file, as for images
i myself always use the blackhole images
but others like other teams and it's just
a matter of which you like best, i had a
similar problem after i loaded a pluggin
and that changed the buttons and stopped some
working on the remote. did you try recoding the
remote ? if you did and it's not working i hope
a new image resets it to default so you can set
    the menu's
    etc:

    Hi all,

    Somehow I have fixed it!

downloaded the latest openvix image. Flashed the box with it and it detected a backup so I clicked yes to restore from last back up and everything came back on after a reboot.

i had a look through the settings menu in the box and have made another backup on the box.

how do I get the backup off the box and onto my USB stick so I can keep the backup somewhere safe?

anyone help with a dummies guide?

    thanks
