Default Buying a VU+ Duo (original)

been thinking of getting a new sat box for a while as i have had my Blade Combo for over 3 years, and when i saw that they had brought a new 5000s out i considered that, but was soon brought back to reality as it is basically the same as my old combo that i am growing out of, as i want a box that i can set up the way that i want to, and the only one that fits the bill is the VU+Duo as the price has really fallen lately, and you can get a Original one from World of Sat for ?209 and they even pre load it with the firmware of your choice for free,
so that's another Question what firmware to run Black hole or Vix i know that blackhole is popular but i have heard that vix is just as good, and another point which is easiest to use
as coming from a Blade Combo i have a lot of reading up to do, been trying to pick a few things up on you tube but half of the really good informative ones are foreign

    Thanks in Advance

Personally i would buy a solo2 clone. They are super quick and will make the duo look like a couch potato. Also ive heard that some duo's suffered a memory leak (you may want to read up on it) i dont know if this was fixed or not.

A solo 2 clone can be had for about ?170. Or get an original solo2 for ?250ish. Once you see the difference you really will think its worth it.

As for images, i only use Vix. It does everything seamlessly, Simple for anyone to use. EPG built in, auto bouq built in. No messing about.

150 euro for a mini vu+duo including p+p i find it great can take all images , with the sat side going through uncertainty { not that i'm worried } worth a shot imo

solo2 original great box and on vix, clones may not be able to take the latest images due to anti clone drivers.

Vu duo original, are first class boxes, especially if your coming up the ladder.
yes solo2 are much faster smoother + ?80 at WOS, But for the price a vu duo is good value.
Used to use blackhole, now I'm using VIX, simple and to the point.{ No offense to blackhole users]

Thanks for all the input i have been siting on the fence for ages deciding what box to upgrade to,i love the simple operation and setup of the Blade and i have considered most of the new boxes including the
Gigablue Quad & 800's - mini VU+duo and most of the clones,
i really do not want to go down the clone route and with my limited knowledge of Linux boxes i would rather go for something that is tried and tested with loads of support
i have been down the Cable route with the star-view boxes and got the Blade when cable finally died i wanted the VU+ then but the price was out of my grasp
so now the time is right and the more reading up i do the more i keep going back to the VU+Duo the new boxes look nice and are very tempting but i can wait
and like trance mentioned i am coming up the ladder,i would rather move up slowly and finally make it to the top instead of rushing and falling down half way up

so now to the operating system vix looks good and i quite like the images that i have seen, also black-hole looks good as well i suppose that i will try vix out 1st then see

now Hard Drives i have a few old 500gig sata ones from my pc but i also have a 500sata that i took out of a Tivo box but could never get it to format on my PC,i was told it's because it is Linux
now that should format strait away should it not - not sure but i have plenty of other options
one last point how many hours recording time should i expect from a 500 gig HD and if i record on to a external drive will it be compatible to play connected to a PC

    Thanks in Advance

i think you can get a gigablue 800 twin tuner for under 200 you can also get vix for it well worth a look, the gigablue quad has the same processer as the solo 2 loads of flash streets ahead of the duo m8

blueflash you must have posted as i was writing mine out i have considered the bigablue 800 still being torn between it and the vu+duo but their dose not look like much support for the gigablue at the moment

cheers blueflash i have been doing a bit more research and i am now going towards the gigablue Quad as it looks like a fantastic box i have seen this
but not sure if it ia an Original box or a clone as the price seems really low at 229 euros that works out at about ?188 so tempted if it's an Original box

    GigaBlue Quad, HD PVR, 2 x DVB-S2 + 2 tuners - DVB-S2 - Receivers

if it is correct i will be ordering one tomorrow

just checked for postage and its about ?18 from Finland i can feel a deal coming on

cheers mate i thought they might be a bit NEW for the clones to start on them as i am sure that they where over ?300 not so long ago

i think i will Bite the Bullet and order one tonight as it seems like the box to go for as i can not really justify going for the VU+Duo2 at nearly twice the price

well i ordered the Gigablue Quad from Finland GigaBlue Quad, HD PVR, 2 x DVB-S2 + 2 tuners - DVB-S2 - Receivers on the 19th
and up till now i have not received an email telling me that it has been shipped even though my order has been invoiced and paypal have confirmed purchase but not took the funds yet
looks like they must be out of stock and probably (hopefully) will not take payment till they ship it fingers crossed - i would have had the VU+Duo by now and i am getting impatient as i want to get my grubby mitts on it
