Default How to strip this Grand Cherokee Ignition?

    Hi Chaps,

I have an all keys lost to a 1996 Grand Cherokee Jeep.
Door lock is a different key to the ignition as the ignition has been replaced.

Removed the switch but I'm struggling to work out how to pull the barrel out to make keys.

Anybody done one of these before?

It looks very much like standard US Chrysler from that time period, except it has black plastic instead of white. The American lock lock from that make and model year has ears on what you call the barrel. The following is for American Jeep, maybe that will help. Two stage removal, need to turn plug to on to remove. Possibly pick, American lock is not sidebar lock. That also allows for impressioning, if you have that skill. Turn to on position to push retainer, lock will come out an eighth of an inch-without pushing lock back in, turn key to off and take key out, which allows key buzzer to drop out of the way, then the lock will slide out. Do not push lock back in when turning off is the important instruction. Many times the housing for what you call the barrel can be bad also. In the states some parts stores sell the whole thing as a package. I hope that helps, like I say, this for comparable US model.

Thanks camelgd, your bang on, turn one click forward and barrel comes out a bit, remove key and it comes all the way out.
The retainer is actually a security screw that you have to undo,
    Nothing to push in.

Sight read the wafers and all good.

They came out with a retrofit screw retainer later on, because of the large amount of jeeps being stolen in the US. It almost became a contest between gangs to see who could steal them faster. Glad the info helped, there are always differences from country to country in hardware as well as software.
