    Default Very Confusing Problem

    Vu + Solo 2

    OpenATV 4.3

    My brother & I have a Vu+ Solo 2.
    We both have OpenATV 4.3
We both have same broadband provider & getting the same speeds.
    Same server.

The problem is that his is freezing a lot & mine is working great.

I have a fixed PC, whereas he has a 10 year old laptop.
We share the same broadband provider & he actually lives nearer to the phone exchange.
We both have the same modem.

We both are physically fixed to our modems.
Any input would be gratefully appreciated as there is no reason why he can't get the same service as me.
It's just a matter of finding out the best solution.
    Running on Softcam 2.3.0

Unless you both live in the same house then there are going to be variables:

    1. Telephone line condition/Age
    2. Household interference from other electrical apparatus this also has an affect to some degree
    3. Oversubscribed CAB/Poor connection

Basically just because you both have the same receiver/broadband/router does not mean you can expect the same sort of reliability, And it wont matter if he has a 10 year old laptop and yours is 10 months, you cannot replicate your conditions in your household exactly in another household its physically impossible.

what you need to do is phone him and do a ping test at peak times (Evening) when every tom, dick and harry is on T'internet, just to give you an idea if your ping test comes back at under say 70ms and your brothers is topping over 70ms then there lies the problem. Something which i cannot go into great detail about due to forum rules

    Thanks.
Our speeds are much the same during tests.
I'll ring him to see if he has a DECT phone or its charger near the modem.

    Hi,

Not really talking about speeds download or upload these are irrelevant for what you are asking, A Ping test measures the quality of your line by transferring packets of data from one end to another and the ****ysing how many get through andreturn undamaged or how much is lost.

There are websites that will let you do Ping tests but the correct way is through CMD (command prompt) on your laptop/PC and the connection must be hard wired and not wireless and not even home plugs for a true test

might be worth a call to BT to check the line. I had a blob of solder drop on my connection from a sloppy engineer fixing someone else's line and it caused all sorts of trouble.

I got an expert PC seller/repairer to check both lines for ping testing using the cmd & mine came up at 38ms & my brother's came up at 35ms.
I couldn't understand the technichal side of things that he was talking about, but he said the tests were excellent & that both modems are working fine.
All I can think of at this stage is that our softcam is working through TS Panel.
I wonder if I added several softcams to his receiver that he could try them out one by one.
The only thing is that I don't know the steps to add these softcams in layman's terms.
I have a rar package of softcams which can be added but I don't know how to add these via DCC & where would I find these afterwards to activate them one by one.
Are some softcams better than others?

By using TSpanel first off can have side effects on certain images, secondly are you 100% sure you installed the correct cams for the image you are using as some are labelled 'ALL' but they will not work correctly in ALL images.

Just for example if you have Openvix then you download a cam that is specific for the Openvix image and not one say that works in Blackhole, Thats just an example.

some images still have active Cam feeds from the plugin menu so do not even need TSpanel installing at all, dont get me wrong TSpanel has its uses but in my honest opinion its a lazy way to get cams when a little google search will reveal the exact package you need for the image you are using

The image he has is OpenATV 4.3.
I installed TS Panel & took the 2.3.0 softcam to run it.
So maybe I have the wrong softcam.
Would you know what softcam I should be using for this image?
Where I'm stuck is adding a softcam & the steps involved to do this.
If I had the correct one I could then delete TS Panel.

Now i know your using the OpenATV image then install this : I have uploaded the Openatv softcam feed .ipk, you install as a normal .ipk and then once you reboot receiver press Bluebutton goto plugins section and select plugin filter and enable both pli and vix feeds.

Then exit press green button for plugin menu, Green again to download plugins you should now have a softcam feed section second from the bottom with all available cams

    Thanks for the Softcams.
It took me ages to get the .cfg going, but I got there.
My brother said that everything is going well so far.
He is watching a channel that will have a huge draw on the system over the weekend & it's a great test for the Softcam.
I will let you know on Sunday how things are going.
I also deleted the TS Panel.

Sadly, the receiver is back to freezing again.
I don't know whether this makes any difference or not, but when I first did an automatic scan for the channels, I scanned for both tuners even though he has only one co axial feed coming from his dish.

Just use the one tuner and why not use the autobouquet feature instead of scanning for channels

If I put the other tuner out of action would it improve his chances of the channels not freezing?
    I have the Autobouquets alright.

The strange thing about this is that his receiver works fine in my house.
I wonder if it is a setting on his laptop?
