    3 years

The memory battery (aka motherboard, CMOS, real-time clock (RTC), clock battery) is generally a CR2032 lithium coin cell. This cell battery has an estimated life of 3 years when power supply unit (PSU) is unplugged or when the PSU power switch is turned off.

So if i change the battery with connected external power it should be ok? I have mine already for 3 years and it is kind of my every day go to tool and i don't need surprises at the moment.

So if i change the battery with connected external power it should be ok?- I think it will be ok.

When looking for information about FVDI, I found data that indicate that the device's CR2032 battery (RAM) protection lasts up to 5 years. I think that VVDI Prog will last similarly, up to 5 years. It all depends on the power consumption and battery as well as the period of storage in the distributor's warehouse.

The most simple way is to take down eeprom from ECU and read it with programmer !

Another more fast way is to read it in circuit with clip soic08 for eeprom, here need some experience and to take care to not destroy content data from you eeprom, here need to support also the programmer what you use to read in circuit !

Could someone post a cr2032 swapp manual.
A secure way, to attach a new cr, parallel to the old.
And a link, to the best quality cr2032 money can buy.

Sending in the device, or waiting for it to stop working, is not desirable.

And not just vvdiprog, could be preserved this way.

Most cases I've heard about dead battery were quite long before the expiration of the 3 years mentioned here.
    Usually reason was defective battery.

Something else I'm thinking of is the batteries of old computers die in 10 years or more.
Shouldn't it be something similar with these tools too?
Seems more likely that when the battery dies the tool would already be thrown in the bin and replaced by something newer/cheaper/better or just rendered as unnecessary.

I already asked about a guide to replace such battery - they refuse to give such, because after battery replacement the internal memory wipes and needs to be reflashed.
This is because of some sort of copyright security. So I highly doubt it would change anything if the USB cable or 12V is attached.
Maybe only way would be if you attach in parallel a new battery first and then disconnect the old one. That is before the old one died of course.
But if it fails they might refuse to fix your tool...

About quality batteries - can anyone recall what batteries Tesla cars used before they decided they want to go cheaper? That's right - Panasonic.

    Hello.
I was interested in the subject of rtc batteries. I called the authorized xhourse service in Poland. The service technician informed me that the soft will report a low rtc battery. The battery replacement is performed in China (at the moment) and the cost is 300 Polish zlotys (about 100 dollars). He told me that at the moment no one has sent a battery replacement device (they have had the equipment working for 4 years).
    greetings.
