Default HOW TO READ EDC16+ WITH BDM100 CLONE

    Hi guys, complete newbie here.

I failed to read an EDC16+ ECU with a K-TAG (long story) and I ordered a BDM100 clone alongside it as a recovery plan

It seems like a very basic unit and I have two questions:
    - is this able to read a EDC16+ ECU on the bench (already opened)
    - if it is, how to connect it as I have only a 10 pin cable and some (totally unrelated, 2 Delphi, 1 Siemens) adapters

    It is a 2009 Volvo C30 1.6 D, 109 bhp, D4164T engine, Bosch ECU

    Thanks

    ps, I can solder

it should be Bosch EDC16C34 yes course you can use BDM 100 edc16. good tool if used correctly,
if you failed with a k tag, why you think bdm100 going to work ? same pads, different tool,
you sure you havent f&&ked the ecu,
you should have a bosch adaptor, with the kit as well as the other boards,
you realise you have to solder the pins into adaptors, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTgzmb6Y6Uo (c/o Ominimicu)
if you havent got adapter you could follow ribbon cable, correct way round, and wires to ecu pads, solder as a quick fix to read / write
you dont need to power ecu from rear of ecu, all done from pads.
    bdm100 pdf instructions (PAGE 5) http://www.evc.de/ftp/winols/BDM100-en.pdf
if you cant read now with this info, Take it to a PRO

    Thanks pulsar for babysitting

The reason the K-Tag doesn't work because I've bought a crap Chinese one and it was soldered by a 5 years old on a Shenzhen crop field...
When I connect up it gave me several error codes an finally it says "It's not compatible" It cannot be updated to the new firmware either because the segger cannot properly communicate with it. So I have ordered new NXP chips to sort it. Not to mention the fact it came with bent adapters.

The OBD frame came without proper adapters.

So I left with the BDM100. Also it came with 3 adapters but two of them is the same Delphi. Same 5 year old kid counted them ant it was three pieces - unfortunately none of them Bosch... So I will just solder some wires there...

ECU is fine I've checked last night.

Thanks for all the info and the links - I did not know that originally it's made by the same company as WinOLS I've just realized this morning when I went there to download the demo.

I'll let you know how it's went...

I've just read the manual but unfortunately it does not show the pinouts it deals with the adapter - which is fair enough as they are not selling crap so you can just grab the adapter.

But as I have no adapter I have only got the connection strip cable - which I was intended to cut then solder the wires to the ECU pins and read the ECU. But for that i need the pin out.

This - for a start - is quite strange as on the crap Bosch adapter (the bent one I had) only 8 connectors (fine 10 but 3 and 4 not used so 8 pins) were present and here in the BDM100 manual it says we should use 10 (as I numbered the above picture):

the counting of the pins is correct - if you will use BDM 100 just plug the adapter (10 pins) into the ECU and that's all.
The picture above is not correct!

The correct pin-out is with all 10 pins = 2x5 one after each other! Starting pin 1 is marked on your "belt" with red stripe.
For verification just use one multimeter to monitor the connectivity - I recommend GND connection to be checked!

Theres 2 variants for Bosch Both seem to work, cant find pinouts , but if you look at bosch adapters you will see two different types, so long as you land on pin 1 correctly, Both read fine

So, is the bit I quoted from the manual not correct or did I misunderstand? It clearly says leave out 3 & 4 and 13 & 14.

    Thanks

as i said 2 variants on pinouts, both work,,,,

you should have some pins with your kess to plug into ribbon cable so you can go direct to pads on edc16
think there was a bdm100 firmware update to v1255 (newer Protocols) ?
    mine works flawlesly,,,,

    I wouln't be so sure!
    Pin Name
    01 Po-RST
    02 12V
    03 TMS
    04 NC
    05 DSCK
    06 GND
    07 DSDI
    08 DSDO
    09 12V
    10 VFO

If you will move the second row one step, than GND will be PIN8- DSO!!!!

So easy check if your PIN6 is GND and PIN2 and PIN9 are connected to 12V

I have on the trash one ECU EDC16 which somebody connected to BDM using #6!!!
    Now it is dead!
