    Default Sky+HD custom software/firmware

Hi, does anyone know if there is any custom firmware or software for Sky+HD boxes to turn them into freesat boxes. Currently when you no longer have a subscription you don't even get the most basic freesat channels and lose the ability to record.

If you pay Sky approx. ?20 they give you a freesat card for the box so that you get all the free channels but you still cant do live pause etc. Any suggestions how this can be done or any firmware or software out there ?

    Thanks

the official white card if left in the box will give you Regional Freesat channels that is what the card is primarily used for if you remove it you will default to BBC london region.

I am afraid you need an official sub to record on the official box, Unless you try and source an old Blue card with yellow house that is still active, These i believe can work in certain official receivers to give you recording capability back.

A cheap linux enigma2 receiver with a hard drive will do the exact same job

Yes you do. Even without a card you will still get most of the same channels as you would with freesat.

With an expired card, you will get your correct regional programmes as digicon says. Plus you will get a few extra channels, such as Motors TV, Sony TV & Sony Movies.

Interesting the blue card would suit my parents as they have an old white sky+ box with an expired subscription. Would any blue card do so could I look on ebay as they miss the recording
