at least is correct - I think Man U fans could well be underestimating his loss and placing too much faith in Fergie....granted write Man U off at your peril they've proven that many a time, but then again there's only so many times you can pull one out of the bag no matter how good you are - with Ronaldo no longer a factor it has to be said that Liverpool have got to be major favorites this year. Especially if they land David Villa.

This season is going to be like a typical episode of 24 if anyone knows that tv show I tell you that much, edge of your seat tension and riveting....the variables this season are so interesting already because that league is hyper competetive in the top 4 and with Ronaldo gone it opens up alot of new possibilities and it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds I can't wait! The only thing that could make it any better would be if Mourinho came back to the Premiership with that swagger and straight talking

As for the Riise topic that I brought up, for me (on the outside looking in of course) I wouldn't have sold him, not for ?6 million or whatever it was. I'd have kept him as a squad player at least. As left backs with his style are rare (Roberto Carlos is one but I can't think of anymore left backs with rocket left foot shots) but yeah I'd have kept him.

Glen Johnson could well turn out to be your star signing this year, you paid far too much for him but then his stock went up by at least ?8 million the moment he got multiple run outs as England's main right back - but he is a good, pacey player. That's one thing I think Liverpool are sorely lacking except for Gerrard and Torres is pace - and even those two are hardly speedy gonzalez types.

I think, if you caught a Manchester United fan being honest and not on the wind up, we would admit that this coming season is going to be a tough one for us. Your correct at the asumption to write United off at your peril, but we have a few players in our starting line up that really have to step up , if we have a chance to win the league (champions league is completley out of the question) yet there isn't one player in our side thats not capable of doing so.

That said, the likes of Anderson should be fine if we get Hargreaves back. Even last season I felt we lost that bite in midfield. No doubt we'll play a more clinical style and we do have the impact players to do it but I think it's going to be a tough ask for us to win it four years in a row.

Mame Biram Diouf arriving in January may be the turning point, if he gets a few run outs in the cup games... For me though, this season is more about Macheda growing and Berbatov justifying the hype than Owen or Rooney.

Back on the Alonso saga, a scouse mate of mine was telling me that Alonso's in for a loyalty bonus around the 14th of August. Does this bare any significance of a deal being sorted before then?

Liverpool Football Club have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the sale of Xabi Alonso.

The story broke this evening that a fee has finally been agreed, however the club has confirmed the deal will remain confidential.
