I was told today that it's "too small of a job" - which btw I would never say to my customers - so I reckon this is reason I have no reply.
    Or is it?

your right special equipment required to program your "ebay"/china key. If it was genuine then it wouldn't need programming, just start the car.
NO one has answered cos your trying to be a cocky bugger by buying your own key.

The kit we buy and crap we put up with means there has to be profit in it for us. Just look on this forum - full of people who have f*** the CAS -

So for that reason, I'd tell you to stuff you "ebay"/china fob

Obdsystems might of been a bit of an ar*e about it but he actually answered your questions.

No one will want to deal with you because buying your own key normally means you think someone will come out and program it for ?20, also often people buy an inflated price key on ebay which means the one programming it would also loose out on the profit on the key.

As obdsystems said an original key would come programmed for the car, so if you have an original is it second hand or new for another car? if so it is no good.

If you want this doing either go to a dealer or get a quote from a locksmith and do not mention you have a key.

You see that's the kind of answer you'd expect in this part of the world

Problem is if you assume too much instead of asking.

Firstly this is a brand new key from the US and it seems perfectly genuine (at least for my untrained eyes) after comparing to the working one. Have you seen that I ever mentioned eBay?

Secondly I didn't "think that someone will come and do it for ?20" as I'm providing services myself and I'm living in 2015 and also I would happy to travel.

Thirdly, I have already asked a locksmith and they cannot do it with or without my key.

Now who is being an arse?

I didn't say the key was from ebay, and obdsystems mentioned ebay just as an example and for a good reason - that is because an original does not need programming therefore you have not got an original from the dealer so must have got elsewhere like ebay/china again doesn't matter if you got from the US the same applies its not the original from a dealer.

I said 'buying your own key normally means' do you not understand English very well? I will rephrase for you.. people ring a locksmith to get a cheaper key than the dealer (or quicker) people buy a key from ebay (for example) because they know the price from the dealers / locksmiths and see a cheap key and think they can get it programmed by a locksmith cheaper than a quote from the locksmith to supply and program. Again I am explaining why you got turned down... and as I said 'normally' means that there are some that dont expect a dirt cheap job, but locksmiths aren't going to waste there time to find out when most do.

Is there only 1 locksmith in London? Just because 1 can't program it doesn't mean another can't.

But will an attitude like that when given help, maybe obdsystems reply was more fitting.
