    Default Noobie Advice?

    Hey All,

Superb forum you have going here!!! I'm about to purchase the EuroVox 1000SL, but the more I read on here the more and more complicated it becomes.....Could anyone help me with a coupld of questions?

When I first receive the box, I need to restore factory settins, and then do a scan, and maybe a deep scan depending on how many channels I get from the first one, but whats the difference between this and 'flashing' my box? Will I need to flash my box to get the latest firmware on there even though it will be brand new?

Also I've downloaded the Sym Rate list, but where I live isnt listed there? How do I knwo which is the correct one for me?

Sorry for all the very basic questions, but my head hurts from reading too much

Also one more question, some people seem to receive PPV channels and some dont? Can anyone let me know why this is?

Thanks in advance for all your help guys n gals!!!

hi mate all boxes are sold as fta boxes,so flashing is a term used for putting new firmware on,this then allows you to view the not allowed channels. after the new firmware has been put on the box,you then follow the tuts ie factory reset scanning etc etc

Ah Ha - Nice one C9, so first thing I do when I unwrap my box is to come back on here and 'flash' it. Then restore factory settings, then scan for channels!?! Is that all in the correct order?

I assume the null modem RS232 cable doesnt come with it, so will need to buy one of those too!

Any idea on the pay per view movies etc that some seem to get but not others?

    Hi m8,
Sl1000 is a good basic box and is very easy to flash.
When u first get your box, it will normally have "free to air" software on it. In order to gain access to all the pay channels u will have to flash the box with the latest softwa*e(available on this forum)
After flashing, u have to scan for channels, this enables the box to pick up channels in your area.
Symbol rates are usually 6887 or 6952 and if u r not sure u can try both.
PPV channels will be picked up when an event is on, like wwe wrestling or boxing. U cannot order PPV movies.
Dont forget, u will need a null modem cable and or usb cable in order to update the softwa*e.
And of course all the help u require is available right here.

you can pick up the PPV events channel but can't choose what to watch on it - sometimes if people in the area have paid for a movie you can find it being broadcast on here. OR the week leading up to PPV events (wrestling, boxing, etc) u will get the preview and repeats.

if there's nothing on, often it won't appear in scans

Try both 6887 and 6952. If wont do any harm if u choose the wrong symbol rate.
dont forget to do a clear date/factory reset before every scan.
