Yes, my friend told me this as well, he bought a fvdi psa, peform diagnosis no problem, but can not read immo security code, I think i'd better pick up other items instead

I have a VAG FVDI from a chinese seller and it works pretty good.. I do alot of 2006-2009 VW's and the only problems I have had is when I get an ECU that has a tune on it.. Have had a couple in the last month.. Called APR ( a tuner) and gave them the last six of the vin, they can't tell tell you what was done to the ecu, but they have been nice enough to say, yes, that car has a tune.. The customer was able to send the ecu's back to apr and they took out the blocking code and I was able to read the ecu and get the CP and pin.. The FVDI that I have works great if you have a key and are making another, if it is an all keys lost situation, you will probably have to read the ecu and then the program will search thru the bin and find the info.. I have a Micronas dongle with most softwares authorized, but if you go that route you have to have a Tango or other programmer to write the CP into the chip to preprogram the 48 can chip to learn to the car... The FVDI does this automaticly for you... and it guides you thru the process in wizard mode... As for diagnostics, the FVDI is pretty good, but I use VCDS to do most diag work.. Hope this helps,

Soft dog dongle is not free as written in their advertisement, it costs 100$, as I request to send locally on china to Shanghai city, two soft dogs and their answer 200$.
