Default Picture Quality issues on Openbox V5S

It's been running like I dream for 6 months but in the last day or so picture quality has become quite poor, Text is difficult to read (eg on Sky Sports News Channel), and straight lines appear a bit jagged.

I've tinkered around with as many setting on my HD Ready TV (720) and also the Openbox (set as 720/50 or 720/60) & it's not made much difference. I've tested it with other sources & picture quality is top notch, so it can only be the Openbox. Any ideas please? Thanks

Maybe, but that doesn't help me. Obviously as a 'newbie' I clearly have no idea why my box is doing that.

It's 18 months old, and I've only used it for the last 6 months or so.

Do I need a new, upgraded box? Would I have to notify my 'gift' provider?

It sounds like there's either something wrong with your v5s or your hdmi cable could be degraded. You could try another hdmi cable and see if that makes a difference and/or flash the latest firmware on to your v5s and see if that makes a difference, don't forget to backup important files.

As to informing you provider if you change boxes, that's not required as at the end of the day you're just an IP address to them.

What maca means its a cheap low end box....while they last sometimes a week/month/3 months/a year if your lucky
there a throw away box.....cheaply made & sometimes death traps waiting to happen.....

All the latest ones Vs5.v8s are worse than the early ones ....I still have my F3 and its been running the last 3 year & still going strong

When they start to play up.....its time to bin it & move on
get a better box.....Plz don't ask which there are so many......depends on the budget & what you want from the box

If just a plug & play box like you have ....then take another chance on the openbox...but bear in mind you might need another one in 3 months
you pay your cash & take your chance with these boxes..thats why there so cheap

If you want to upgrade then there are 100's of posts asking what box to upgrade to.......have fun reading because there are lots of then

but again depends on what your preference is .

Thanks for explaining. I think I'll consider an upgrade when finances allow it....until then I'll try another HDMI cable. I've looked at other threads for advice re other boxes & have an idea or 2. No idea what Linux is but apparently thats the way to go......

Seems as though its the HDMI 1 slot on the TV (HDMI 2 & 3) are fine. Thanks to all.

Looks like reports of the early demise of my Openbox were a little premature !
