Did you get this started? Sounds like a nightmare.
Next time use the auto find options at top of vw menu. Should not have to remove for 2014? just need to find correct option that reads and writes.

there are certain cars that cannot be done obd straight forward, you need to do the above procedure. I had a golf 7 2014/15 and tried every option-failed. Helpdesk told me with that model(JC) , need to do the above procedure. I never had the multiplex adapter at the time
