Hello all: I am a new member of the forum.

Also a new owner of a TomTom 510 that I recently inherited; and I need some guidance.

My 510 is from 2006, and the former owner never updated anything ... which I would like to address. I have been to the TomTom site and can't seem to find understandable basic quidelines for a 'newbie'.

I have downloaded the latest version of their Home program ... and that's about it.

Where would I begin to update? I can get online via the home dock unit.

Am in USA.

Start Tomtom Home and then connect your Tomtom with usb connection ,
if it has a memory card you can insert the memory card and then start tomtom home which will identify memory card as tomtom and then check and update the program latest available standard navcore.

To use latest maps which is v8.35 you need to install SE Navcore which is a navcore version for latest tomtom units which have been modified to work with older units.
