Default Range Rover Evoque Steering Rack Virginise

Can anyone suggest a fix or if it is possible to Recode a Second Hand/ Used Steering Rack to a 2014 Range Rover Evoque.

I have been given a car with numerous faults and the major one is the Steering Rack (No Power Steering ) The rack has been replaced because of accident damage and the old one disposed of.
The New rack is still showing the VIN of the previous vehicle and faults which clear but return.
Tried with JLR SDD online and with dealer support. They say it needs a new rack, cannot code existing rack with old VIN.

    Can anyone suggest otherwise?

I haven't tried to strip the Pump Motor Unit down yet as it is now fitted to the vehicle. Will arrange to have it removed if anyone is confident this can be done, or has done one.

I think someone always has to be the first to try, you should get it removed and have a look. Land rovers can be a nightmare though

Hi ACCCHRIS I know its been while but can you tell me how you fixed your steering rack in the end as I'm having the same problem fitted a second hand rack and it's not working did you have to buy a brand new one in the end or manage to code yours thanks for any info.

Because the Original rack was not available and the second hand one was VIN coded to another vehicle we had to fit a new one.
If the motor unit is ok you could just swap that over only 2/3 screws to remove it from memory.

If you had the dump files from two or more units and the corresponding VIN, it could be worked out.

I could not see anyway of reading info from the device, not to say that there isn't.

A second hand unit is not plug and play. The Motor Part which has the electronics can be separated from the mechanical rack if it is ok and swapped.

A new Rack/ Motor must be adapted, coded to vehicle.

    Hi all

I know this is an old thread..once a brand new rack has been fitted does the adaptation & coding need to be done by JLR software only or can it be done using other scanners aswell?

    Thanks

Meathead i've only just seen your reply so apologies for the very very late reply

I managed to initialise the new steering rack using JLR software connected to main JLR server. It downloaded the necessary files then followed procedure, job done

Thanks, that is great, so, the tosser who decided to do it that way, goes to a s~~~~y
Eating house, where Manwell the waiter says “you will have to wait for your steak, we are unable to cook it until
the Farmer that made the cow, Tweets the cooking instructions & sends the secret code for the gas to light”

That man, will just beat it out the door elsewhere.
