With a programmer. It says CAS3 but it's really CAS2++. Two-byte ISN at 05A6h~ and 16-byte ISN at 0BBCh~.

Heheh, all good now . Car #1 fired up and ran immediately and if it wasn't raining like hell here, I'd go do the other. I hope the CGDI folks add the option for this type of CAS, as it would save the effort of manually editing eeprom.

Tried it on CAS 2 key programming, success.
Tried it on CAS3 key programming by obd2, success
Tried it on CAS3+ with ista-p, downgraded and programmed key, success.

What exactly is the key unlock function?

For example, does it take used keys from other vehicles and clear the transponder so it can be used with another vehicle - i.e. make them "virgin"?
Is this referring instead to the ability to pull the encryption key(s)?
Or does remove keys from the CAS slots?
Or some other function?

Whatever the function may be, is it also confirmed working?

You certainly can't "virginise" used keys.

All I've been able to do with it is clear a key I've already programmed. I made two keys for a guy who never came back, I loaded up his key info and unlocked them and put them back into stock.

Or I did one yesterday where it programmed the key on position ten, but didn't work. I unlocked it, put it on position five and it was fine.

Well, two more successes to add to the list.

2010 Mini Cooper Cas3+ Add key. Downgraded, key added, ISN read from existing key. Unsuccessful. ISN obtained by trying to start car <64 times. Successful.

2006 E90 Cas 3 Add key. Successful.

i havnt run into a issue where i needed 64 starts. but curious, when i do, i simply just try to start the car 64 times? do i press the start button, let go, try again thats 1...repeat 2...?

If you have 2 cgdi products, they'll *eventually* authorise it for you.

Have patience. Took them three weeks to authorise it for me and another ten days for mileage adjustment.
