Question Flashing a DM600-PVR without null modem cable

Is there a way that I can flash my DM600-PVR without using a null modem cable?
Via the Dreams hard drive or something, or like I can with my Dbox2 by Ftp the image into the box's temp directory.

I cannot believe that I have got 3 Pc's & 3 laptops, but not one of them has got a bl**dy serial port.

I went & got a (Usb to serial) from Maplin & found out that the serial end of it was a female socket (not male) + also reading the other threads on here about the usb/serial leads, it seems there's a lot of problems with the drivers to make it work.

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks
    Ian

Thanks for the quick reply Thomson. (in under mins)

But sadly not what I wanted to know :-(

When I dug out my old 8 yr old laptop out the loft, I was hoping that it had a serial: but no..
Oh well back to the drawing board...

    Hi Smirnoff

    Sorry crosspost.

I did ftp the image to the temp & thought there would be a way to flash it from there, but could not see 1.

You mean just rename the .nfi to img?

What about usin g the telnet option?

    1. In the telnet window, type the following, pressing <return> at the end of each line.

    mount /boot -o remount,rw
    rm /boot/*
    reboot

    2. You should now get a message saying that the Dreambox is rebooting.

    3. Wait a few seconds and then run Explorer (Firefox or whatever) and enter the ip address of the Dreambox in the address bar.

    4. On the screen that appears, choose the 'Upgrade firmware' option, find the .nfi file and click the 'Flash' button.

    5. Once the progress bar reaches 100%, reboot the box

    Done

I have never used DCC but I assume you could use DCC, I prefer to use the windows telnet.

Have not used telnet since the old Dos days,
would not know how to now, could not even see the program in my windows 7,
or is it through the windows command prompt?

But I did it see in the DCC program.
