For the most of the keys(except VVDI one) I read this: If Benz key board is broken during key writing, you need to buy another new NEC Chip and it can be written for once only.
So, which keys are re-writable?![]()
This describes a special situation where you have a problem during key writing or client comes with a broken key and wants repair. And this is probably about original Benz keys only. BE keys are rewritable through IR - no need to remove the NEC in any case.
You can see that note in this key. I think that it's not a genuine Benz key. What do you think?

Just to update, I transferred the 2 MCUs from old to new donor EIS, now the car switches on with both keys, dash come on but no crank. The ESL doesn’t click either way and the lock is stuck in unlock position.
Could this be the ESL that’s now having a problem. I also noticed the EIS quickly gets very hot once connected with or without key but once the ESL plug is removed, the EIS doesn’t heat up.
Please advise.

Buy second hand EIS and write the EEPROM Data
Dont SWAP!
Only read and write!

I’m having issues reading ELS for W204, EIS reads fine as well as the key but ELS doesn’t respond at all. Tried both on obd and bench, yellow K-line was connected. What could be happening, anyone had same problem and possible solutions.
