If you know that the tester you're using is OK, the first thing I would be checking is the wiring to the DL-16 plug.

    Check Here for wiring details.

Can you connect to other ecu's? Like Airbag or ABS?
    What tester are you using?

    Then leave it alone FFS

If the car starts and runs (which I assume it does as you didn't say otherwise) then the problem is likely to be in either the plug or the tool mate.

Pretty sure on this vehicle an aftermarket radio can cause communication problems, try unplugging radio and try again.

canno,if you read the thread properly,i have said that the guy has lost the chip!so i dont think the car runs with no chip!

also i havent got the scanner just i keys,,key programmer,so cant get any comms what so ever to check any code.

the radio is original ford,so nothing has been done to the car prior to the loosing the transponder chip, basically what do i need to check for no comms?thnx

At which point did you say it didn't run ?
At which point did you say you only had one key ?
You said you couldn't get comms so I posted a link to help you understand and check the layout of the EOBD socket, then you say you don't have a scan tool and have a go at me for trying to help.

AT this point with no scan tool and being no good with car electrics then send it to a garage !!

mate at one post you say leave it alone if i dont know about car electrics, well i that dont know im a qualified auto locksmith, but if you give advice, which is apreciated, anyone knows the car(specially fords)engine wouldnt crank if the chip is missing!so lets leave it at that.

today i went to the car and spotted a new bat and alternator, which means that the car has had some history of not charging maybe, and you know if they use the jump leads, that could spike the ecu.since the customer never tell you the whole history,i think thats probably the cause of no comms,i advised the customer to take it to ford.

i didnt mean to be unapreciative, hope you undersatnd.
