Take no notice of meaty. The only thing he can rip is his shreds, especially if he been down the pub drinking polish beer off the floor again

My girlfriend bought the new paper white touch and loves it but also liked her older one

To my knowledge the new kindle's can still take files converted with Calibre.
The problems start if you were stupid enough to buy the Fire HD... Like she who refuses to listen.
The Fire HD 8 7th gen (2018) is a pig. Google play has to be manually installed and only original files downloaded directly from Amazon will show in the Read app. Any that you transfer via a pc/laptop will only show in the Docs app.
Trying to email files to the kindle takes some kind of witchcraft or deal with the devil. Everything worked fine on the old kindle, but this f***ing tablet won't do a thing. No bounce returns, no notifications about failed emails. Max 15 files per email not exceeding 50MB. Under both limits... Still not showing anywhere on the tablet.
Ended up converting all .mobi to .azw3, creating a separate folder in Books and more folders for each author (done through Calibre). They can be accessed through Docs & use the Read app reader, but still don't show up in the Read app list.
My advice... Stick to the ereaders.
