    Yes, you can resolder with hot air also. Just buy a flux pen. Make some flux to the solder pads, put eeprom on pads, and make it hot. The eeprom will swim to the right position. Buy a good station, where you can set the temp. Otherwise your can overheat eeprom and pcb. Make training with some old pcb´s.

    the problem is the risk of corruption. if you lose the dump you are in a world of hurt. safer to desolder & only takes 5 minutes anyway

    personally, I always desolder, sometimes, once ive got the dump & will try to read in circuit so I know for next time
