Many thanks, dell_xps. Being new to this, I was rather intimidated by the process... But with your info and links, it turned out to be relatively painless. Cheers!

Use Zelda if you have it to softmod, or V1 of bannerbomb.

    Default Softmod problem

I softmodded my wii (version 4.2E) using the guide from wiihacks, when loading a backup the disc just said wii update, I seleted this and got a message saying system files corrupt. The wii still boots ok and I can play most backups (it's also hardmodded), but whenever I try to load a game from the usb hdd I get a stack dump.

After installing the homebrew channel for the first time I installed bootmi as boot2 and took a NAND backup.

Would it be wise to restore the NAND backup and start again ?

    Cheers

Omg! Thank you so much Got everything working a few days ago, looked hard but was verrry easy
Just 1 question, how do I install homebrew programs on to the channels page like uLoader? I'd love to put MPlayer as a proper channel. Thanks

( I know there's a few tutorials posted but i couldn't get anything to work with the 4.2E firmware). After a few hours of searching/googling I came across this well written tutorial, only thing I changed was the Neogamma Loader to play back ups with the 002 error, everything works great now.I take no credit for any of these tutorials, I'm only pointing people in the right direction as I thought It was a pain in the (*)(*) to find out how to softmod a 4.2E Wii.Anyways.............

Here goes, this should take you no more than 30mins tops, I have only done this on a 4.2E version.....

    Download bannerbomb v2 from here,
    bannerbomb
follow the instructions, as soon as you have the homebrew channel on your Wii your good to go......

    Next.....
    Visit this website,
HOWTO: Setup a System Menu 4.2 Wii for playing backups of commercial games with uLoader Ade's Softmodding Wii blog

Download the file complete4_2.zip, and follow the tutorial.
As I said earlier I used the Neogamma loader to get games with the 002 fix error to work, all other games play no problem via the USB loader.
There's probably a newer bit of software out there, I'll amend my post later if there's a better solution, but for now this will get you up and running without the need to look around for hours and hours.
This may work on earlier firmwares also.
Uploaded the neogamma loader, just put this on your SD card in an Apps folder.
My friend i would just like to thanks you for all you have done it worked perfectly if you live anywhere near manchester ill buy you a beer am that greatfull thanks very much XD
