Hi all sorry for asking for help on my first post but I hope someone can help or point me in the right direction

I have one of the pins on my serial port break off so my xenrty now wont work so I though I would just buy a new laptop (like for like ) and swap over the HDD how wrong was I . As you start up the program I now get an error of " No Access Authorization Code! You Must Contact User Help Desk" so I plugged it back into the old laptop and boots up fine so would I be right in saying the code that it has is linked to the hardware within the laptop ?? Is there away round this ??
