ME2.8 cloning with ktag help needed

I am trying to clone my first ECU and am having difficulties. Original is from a Mercedes C240 and replacement is out of a CLK320. Part numbers and hardware numbers match. I am able to read info from both ECU's. I am able to successfully write to AM29F400BB and ST10C167 but writing to ST95040 fails with Communication error with the ECU: control all connections; if the problem persists, send log file to the assistance. Any help/advise is appreciated.

if you can't with ktag, desold st95040 and write old content on new eprom

I understand you would definitely want a backup in case something went wrong. Is there another reason you wouldn't just transfer the st95040 instead of writing to a new eprom?
