Default Are fake VCDS Cable's prone to 'bad coding'

    Hey,

Borrowed a friends VCDS cable. 100% fake clone. Yeah I know, I know.....

Tried coding some modules with it, 2 out of 3 were coded with the wrong coding. I had to go back and fix them with an old-school KKL cable. Are these fake cables prone to bad coding, or is it something else that I'm missing?

    Cheers

Sure enough, this cable is particularly unstable at coding. I have some photos I can include. Is there much I can do, other than return it?

Gahh, piece of shit. So tempted to go genuine, but it's so bloody expensive and this VIN-Limited shit is BS.

Read the topic about repairing or updating clones. Everything is there.

Thanks I'll have a look. Do you think this will fix the unstable coding? Or is that just a bad chip on the device? I do read about Atmega chips etc etc....

I've actually got an original but it's too old now for some of the more modern vehicles

Also, normally I would..... but being a resident of the UK, it's now disproportionately more expensive than in the United States A 3-VIN hex V2 is £225, which is just under $100 more than you guys pay. Also the 3-VIN stuff..... hmmm, I get what they're trying to do but.... hmmm. The second hand ones do come up occasionally, perhaps I'll look out for one....

Not heard of the HEX-NET. Googled it. I would much prefer a cable one really.

    Are you using coding helper?
I have seen bad label files from pre-CAN era cars and if blindly check/uncheck some options, then user gets totally wrong value returned from Lcode to vcds.
Does it goes wrong also by saving old coding (without using helper)?

Give us example, maybe label file is wrong and needs shifted down 1 byte.

WiFi drops out. Not stable at all. They blame other wifi that windows tries to access but that's bollox. It drops out in the middle of a field. Connection drops out on the odd time when using usb cable as well. SEAT's are particularly bad for drops in connection. So it has to be a timing issue in the firmware. Also VCDS is crap at calibrating ABS pump pressure sensors. All that rigmorole pressing brake pedal and holding etc. etc. eventually it loses connection and calibration fails. And b4 anyone starts, its not the laptop, it is the HexNet. If were getting one now I'd get just the top wired version. Makes u wonder if the china ODIS is worth getting. I did have a china VCDS, v11 or 12. Never had a minutes trouble till I bought original.

Tnx m8! Hex-net is on hold now...
I guess the china vcds 16, odis/e/s with china vcm2 passtru, china vcp and vas-pc are enough for now

    Hi Kaalis

Sorry about the delay.... been a mental few weeks. I've found the cable is just generally unreliable. Even if I type the coding manually, it appears to get it wrong occasionally. In fact, more often than not, it gets it wrong and I have to switch back to my old KKL cable to fix it. Fine on my pre-can car. Do I want to be trying this on a car which exclusively uses CAN and I have no other way of fixing it?

How would I fix the label file? Perhaps I can video record some failing coding sessions, just to show you what I mean.
