Toshiba 97CW42AF

So basically after a bit more research I figured out that 97CW42AF is a chip made by Toshiba for Denso for Toyota. It belongs to the tcls-9000 series it seems and most likely has masked rom, meaning (I think) it can't be reprogrammed. Does anyone have experience with these? I found the instruction manual, the feature list and a code macro assembler, but that's it. Would it be possible to bypass internal ROM and use an external eeprom or flash chip, for the purpose of custom tuned maps?
