you need to post dump here
Hello everyone,
I've been trying to change the VIN in x5 dashboard for a few weeks already, but no luck. Dash has a 93s66 eeprom installed. Used BMW Scanner 1.4 to offload the dump and figured out that the VIN is actually at 0x80, but when I change it to the desired one and try to write it back - I get an error, seems like it has a checksum verification. Can someone please help me and point the correct direction to where the checksum is stored and how to recalculate it?
I do understand that probably the best way to do this would be the needle removal and use of UPA to get the correct VIN in dash, but it seems that someone has already tried that approach and the needles look damaged already so I'm afraid I will not be able to remove them.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Jomberykaso, thanks, will do once I get back to my computer
Hi Jomberykaso,
Here is the dump attached. It has original VIN BR65162, I need to put there GG85612
Never seen 93c66 in X5 dashboards.
Well, it seems to be a dash from 4,6 which has a temp lights. But according to VIN someone has already recoded it in order to install to e39 540.

Hi, AutoExe3219
First of all would like to thank you for finding a time and effort to help me.
Just tried the dump you sent - shows 8 errors after reprogramming and throws an error "Internal checksum error - coding incorrect/incomplete"...
Just out of interest, if you put the original dump back in do you still have the 8 errors ?
No, when I put the original dump back to the dash it says that programming went fine.
If I change the VIN in dump to the desired one - it shows 4 errors.
This dash makes me crazy...
Did you noticed the 93S66.
Are you programming it desoldered in programmer that can do sec. eeproms?

Hi Marek,
No, the needles look quite weak and I'm afraid I will break them if I try to remove them... But it seems like removal is the only way to do this.
By the way, do you happen to know if this eeprom has to be desoldered or there is still a chance that I can try to solder wires from the back cover side to avoid needle removal?
