Had similar problem with AK90 . Used bin file on zedbull to produce transponder that worked fine. Which means my AK90 was reading good but some error on writing transponder ! Advise use your file with alternative tool for transponder

never had problem writing chip - never

and I've done 200+ and speak with experience about issues. what problem you have is you should write to un-used slot and then write back to eeprom.

job done everytime - all the time.

*** If file not recognised by AK90 *** then use another editor like AVDI tagtool or guess Zedfull or tango.
Then load back into AK90 and write back.

Maybe you must program 500+ to find out that no need to write back

    Ak90.

    Read EWS.
    Write key.
    Done.

No need to write back if all you're doing is programming a new key to an unused slot.

I've done hundreds too and can't think of any failures.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, had another look at the EWS in BMW Scanner and checked the status of the keys in live data, as per usual the new keys show Wrong Fixed, Random and Password. Aligning EWS DME in BMW Scanner fails to do it. Switched to INPA and tried to do it in there I get Rejected error messages for password and fixed code. Back in BMW Scanner I noticed that it reports the EWS Programmed and Locked. Could this be the reason my keys fail?
Only found one example of this problem on the web and he got it resolved by an independant who went into the EWS, story here
    http://www.e46zone.com/forum/topic/6...s-help-needed/
This was on an E46 where mine is a E85 BMW Z4 with EWS3.3.
I cannot see any way in any of the software I have to unlock the EWS, BMW Scanner has the ability of Unlock and Erase but dont have the balls to do that in case I wipe the one working key I have.
Probablr going to see an independant who has quoted me £150 to sort it once I have fresh transponders delivered. I do know they go into the EWS using something like BMW Editor.

You’ve exhausted all your options and probably spent in excess of £150 on tools, keys and transponders. This would have got you a spare key hassle free. Quit while your ahead before you damage the EWS unit. Get a lockie in with the proper gear or you might end up regretting it.........

Nowhere near near £30 spent as only outlay so far was on that awful AK90 machine and a couple of keys off ebay already had the other software. I think your probably right about getting a lockie to sort it, I think it all boils down to the EWS being locked. Key status when viewed in BMW Scanner shows 1 -3 used and enabled auto init also enabled. The remaining key slots show enabled but aut init is not which leads me to believe BMW locked the EWS to prevent joe bloggs adding new keys. Only found one instance of the same locked EWS on the Web which was resolved by independant going into it and changing a key number from 4 to 0 on an E46. Just wonder what key would BMW supply if I went down that route, I suspect it would be No.4, but how would the car accept that if the EWS is locked? Would they then want the car to unlock the EWS to get the key accepted?

Usually dealership will give you something like slot 3 or 4 seen this before and key not starting the car as slot used. Get a decent lockie before you corrupt EWS then it will be a lot more than £150 to put right

You've buggered about with it so much that there's a good chance a BMW key won't work. The guy in your forum post clearly has a replacement ews fitted from a different car.

    https://m.facebook.com/story.php?sto...41597829647098

Pasoft always says ews is locked and behaves as you describe.

I charge £80 for a diamond key supplied, cut and programmed and I'm not the cheapest!

Send me your module - after you've refitted it and started the car - and a blade to copy and I'll guarantee you a working key or no charge.

I've used the ak90 more times than I can count and have never had to write the bin back to the EWS. If your chips are good, it sounds like your tool is faulty.

Yup said that a while back

Wouldnt write a damn thing to the ews if its known to have writing errors like that

Although it is through different methods

    Rf vs direct connection

Still its a bad box regardless

Result, sorted at last, local Lockie came out and within 20mins had it sorted, using Zed-Full coded diamond key to slot 8 which when tried in the car failed to crank, recoded to slot 3 which was a known used slot and that worked first time. Coded after reading the eeprom which was beyond me, not got the kit to do that. It would seem that the previous time I coded that key to slot 3 with the AK90 it didn't code correctly, reckon the AK90 I have is faulty given that so many others have success using it. Would have been good to have completed the job myself but what were the chances of getting it done if a laid out another £50 on a BMW Editor set up? Given the cost of his kit I don't think I was overcharged even as I had my keys cut already. Very pleased now I have two keys and both are synced up for remote locking which was very easy to do. Thanks Ed, I know you frequent the forum.
